FINAL SENTENCE is out! It hit the shelves yesterday! I'm so excited to share this new adventure with you. I love writing about Jenna and her family and Crystal Cove, California (a fictional seaside town).
Also out this week:
Meg/Peg's new book: Laced with Poison.
And our former MLK'er, Riley Adams's: Rubbed Out.
And our former MLK'er, Julie Hyzy's: Grace Takes Off.
Congrats, ladies!
The launch contest winner for FINAL SENTENCE was announced yesterday in my newsletter. Elena, congrats! Hope the rest of you are on my newsletter list for future giveaways!
Check my facebook page for the names of the winners for the June Scramble Mystery Contest that I did with Krista Davis, Janet Bolin and Maggie Sefton!
And last week's "swag" winner was Charlotte! Congrats to all.
Also, I'm having a new Facebook contest...just this week...with authors Kate Carlisle and Hannah Dennison. If you're not on FB, you can still enter. Write jenel at jenellooney dot com to find out details for the MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR.
Great Good Place, owner Kathleen |
At Books Inc. Opera House location |
Janet and Frank and pup! |
In addition, we attended a literary salon at Janet Rudolph's home. Janet is a major mystery fan and runs the blog Mystery FanFare. She invites a number of readers/authors to her house and we all sit around discussing books, this time mainly "ours" this time. Her darling husband Frank was a fabulous host. Wine, chocolate, potluck. Fun!
Today I'm giving away my fellow touring authors' books, so leave a comment and you could win either TARNISHED AND TORN by Juliet Blackwell or THE COOKBOOK CONSPIRACY by Kate Carlisle. PS. LEAVE YOUR EMAIL after your post, please, so I might contact the winners.
While in the Bay Area I was able to also visit friends and family. Beautiful days. Tiresome traffic.
Prior to going to the Bay Area, I had my step-daughter's son Eli in town. We did lots of fun things like Universal Studios and Disneyland. Fast rides, good chats, not too many long lines.
Eli is a doll, but over the years he has been a picky eater. As are all kids. He's not alone. LOL. And he's getting SO MUCH BETTER. He's trying new things all the time.
Say cheese! |
He loves to help me cook. So I taught him how to make a super simple cheddar cheese sauce, one he could dip vegetables into. This is also great poured over French fries or a baked potato. My new protagonist in FINAL SENTENCE, Jenna who owns The Cookbook Nook, is slightly challenged in the kitchen. She would love how simple this is! Charlotte, the cheese shop owner in the Cheese Shop Mysteries, would also approve. LOL
Eli did a super job of preparation!
Enjoy!
Cheddar Cheese Sauce
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons Parmessan cheese
Directions:
Grate the Cheddar cheese.
In a saucepan over medium low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour, salt, and milk and whisk to remove all lumps. Stir in the cheese. Cook for about 3-4 minutes. Serve warm.
How easy is that!!!
SAVOR THE MYSTERY!!!

A cheese sauce is always to be desired. Your book comes from Amazon next week. I can't wait. I hope to enjoy it just as much as your cheese shop books.
ReplyDeleteSue, thanks for your sweet words. I hope you enjoy it, as well!
DeleteDaryl / Avery
YAY! such an exciting time Daryl! You must be exhausted...I went to our local bookstore yesterday and ordered your book--hopefully they will carry it forward!
ReplyDeleteLucy, thanks! What's the name of your local store. I'll send them some bookmarks. :) Exhausted? Oh, yeah! And yesterday, rather than write me "Happy release day," my editor sent me edits for the next Cheese Shop book. Yipes!!! Happy, happy. LOL

I'm thinking that the cheese sauce may become a regular in my house. I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese in all form and shapes and tastes. Can't wait to try it out, think my hubby may really enjoy it on french fries. :)
ReplyDeleteCarrie, it's become a regular in mine. So easy and creamy.
DeleteEnjoy.
Daryl
That's for the wonderful recipe -can't wait to try it
ReplyDeleteand can't wait to get your book and read it
Ofhp, you bet! We love sharing good recipes on MLK. And books, of course. :)

ReplyDeleteYou sound like you had a really great trip. I'll copy down the sauce recipe but it might be a while till we try it. My better half is on Dr.Fuhrman's Eat to Live diet so I'm actually preparing two separate meals every evening.
ReplyDeleteJuliet's book was a great read and I'd love to get my hands on Kate's new book since it appears that both local county libraries are passing it by at this time.
NoraAdrienne(at)gmail(dot)com
Nora, you're entered (as are all that have written today.) BTW, I totally understand preparing two separate meals a night. My husband is on a strict diet right now. It's working. It makes meals sparse, though. ;) He's a true foodie. :)
DeleteDaryl
PS to all who are readers. Please let your libraries know that you want your favorite authors in stock! It helps all of us.
This recipe may help me to entice my kids into trying more veggies. :) Thanks for sharing your love of food and books!
ReplyDeleteKelly, exactly the point. Makes veggies fun!
DeleteHugs,
Daryl
That literary salon sounds like fun---of course anything with wine, chocolate, and cozies would have to be excellent fun.
ReplyDeletesuefarrell.farrell@gmail.com
Sue, right? I'm thinking I should do something along those lines. So much fun. It's not just your ordinary book club. :) Though those are fun, too.
DeleteDaryl
I don't cook. Ever! I pass along the recipes to my brother and nephews. They are great cooks! Cooking gene totally missed me and they got a double dose. :)
ReplyDeleteBetty, the protagonist in my new series, Jenna Hart, loves food, but she doesn't cook. She's learning as the book progresses. I think you would like her. :)
DeleteDaryl
The cheese sauce AND the books sound good. :)

I love cheese, and I love the MLK site. My 2 favorite things, books and food. What could be better.
ReplyDeleteAmy, that's why so many people like culinary mysteries!
DeleteDaryl
Yea cheese sauce! I'm dreaming of it over French Fries right now! lol
ReplyDeletecozyupwithkathy @ gmail . com
Kat, only now? I dream of french fries all the time!
DeleteDaryl
My kids eat the cheese sauce in the jar and I just can't make myself eat it. This looks easy enough to make in a hurry after work- I'll have to give it a try. Good Luck on the book release. I am always happy for a new series to read!
ReplyDeletesusierobertsmom@hotmail(dot)com
Susie, I love a taste of it. I'm not sure I could eat the "whole" thing, but poured over a baked potato...oh, yeah!
DeleteDaryl
Thanks re: the new series. It's so much fun to write!
I so want to try the cheese sauce since I am a cheese peeson. I could eat it on almost everything. Also I would like to thank you for the give away.
ReplyDeleteDtk070305@ yahoo.com
Tracy, I love cheese, too! Great snack, great on things. Yum! Thanks for writing.
DeleteDaryl
What a handsome young man Eli is! I know you loved spending time with him, and I bet he had a grand time!
ReplyDeleteYou have been too busy! So many contests. You're like the book sugar fairy! I envy the literary salon with Janet Rudolph. It sounds so sophisticated!
~Krista
The book sugar fairy! I love that! So cute. Yes, Eli is a handsome young man. And so darling. Lovely energy.

DeleteHugs,
Daryl
Maybe the cheese sauce would get my husband to eat more vegetables.
ReplyDeletetiggernelsie@yahoo.com
Maureen, I know this sauce helps kids eat more veggies. It must work on grownup kids, too. :)
DeleteDaryl
Your cheese sauce sounds good. I like to add a dab of mustard to mine. Gives it extra zip
ReplyDeleteA dab of mustard. Yum. Nice addition.
DeleteDaryl
Congratulations and best wishes on all the new books!

DeleteDaryl aka Avery
First off, just wanted to compliment you Avery/Darryl on your books. If there were books for each week written by you, I would be reading them. Just love them. Next, I really like to collect recipes. I used to write about food for some local newspapers and included recipes in the columns each week and still cannot resist collecting just "one more". Please enter me in your giveaway today. I would LOVE to be the recipient. My e-mail is ceblain@tmlponline.net Thanks so much and have a happy and safe July 4th holiday.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Cynthia, what a lovely compliment. Thank you so much! To tell you the truth, I'd love to see the new series become a TV series. Wouldn't it be perfect for the Blue Skies set of mysteries, all set at beach locations?
DeleteI love that you used to write for newspapers about food. You're our kind of girl!
Happy 4th to you, too. And to all our readers. We have a special edition tomorrow.
Best,
Daryl/Avery
That was an interesting post. It kind of feels like the weekend with tomorrow being a holiday. I don't have either book so I'd love to win.
ReplyDeleteCheese sauce makes me think of the bacon and cheese baked potato at Wendy's. I love them. I love cheese, especially Colby and Cheddar (mild).
catbooks72(at)gmail(dot)com
Michelle, I love bacon and cheese potatoes! I even made a bacon and cheddar potato soup.
DeleteDaryl
I just started reading cozy mysteries.
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that they have recipes inside of them... Even though I'm a horrible cook.
Oh, Kim, you have tons of catching up to do!!! Don't worry about the cooking. It's the savoring that matters. :)
DeleteDaryl
Thanks for the recipe. My godson doesn't eat anything that isn't processed. Maybe I can get him to dip into the yummy cheese!
ReplyDeleteCindy, I know. It's like Velveeta is real cheese. Not! LOL This really did work for a kid who likes cheese but doesn't like "new" or "nouvelle."
DeleteEnjoy
Daryl
Cheese sauce sounds wonderful. Will definitely make it soon! Thanks for a chance at a giveaway
ReplyDeleteSomething keeps freezing when trying to post website or iPad? As Paul Harvey said...the rest of my post...
ReplyDeleteTennisace50@yahoo.com
Hi, Linda, got the whole post. Who knows how the internet really works. Who knew 10 years ago we'd be talking about a site freezing! LOL
