DIANE KELLY: Hi, y’all! A Trip With Trouble is the second book in my Mountain Lodge Mysteries series, which stars Misty Murphy, a recently divorced fifty-year-old woman pursuing her dream of running a mountain lodge. In my upcoming release, the motorcycle club enjoys s’mores around the lodge’s outdoor fire pit . . . before one of them ends up dead. Eek! Don’t worry. It wasn’t the s’mores that killed her. It was–well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out. 😉
I loved s’mores years ago as a Girl Scout on campouts, and they’re just as yummy today. But you don’t have to wait for a campfire to enjoy the tastes of s’mores. With this recipe, you can enjoy the taste any day in pie form!
This S’mores Pie recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan, so it will please even the most sensitive of palates while being better for us, animals, and the earth. Guilt-free indulgence! Hooray!
S’mores Pie by Diane Kelly
Ingredients:
One gluten-free graham-style pie crust (Hint: the Mi-Del brand is gluten-free and vegan; look for other options in your local grocery)
One large
box of cook-and-serve chocolate pudding
One bag of
mini marshmallows (Dandies are great and they don’t contain gelatin)
Three cups
of almond milk
Optional:
sliced almonds, shredded coconut
Directions:
Prepare the pudding as directed on the box, using almond milk. Pour hot pudding into the pie crust. Top with a solid layer of mini marshmallows. For a fancier pie, toast the sliced almonds and/or shredded coconut by broiling on low for one minute or until lightly browned. Sprinkle warm almonds and coconut on top of the mini marshmallows. Refrigerate for at least two hours.
Dig in and enjoy!
PRIZE GIVEAWAY! Speaking of “leaf peeping,” my favorite place to peep is in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, where my Mountain Lodge Mysteries are set. Where’s your favorite place to see fall foliage? Comment for a chance to win one of three copies of A Trip With Trouble, along with a luggage tag and an adorable plush black bear. (Leave your email address to enter. U.S. and Canadian addresses are eligible. Winner will be chosen Wed, Oct. 12.)
Good luck!
From the cover of A Trip with Trouble:
When the ladies of the Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club take over the Mountaintop Lodge for their annual autumn ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Misty Murphy couldn’t be more thrilled. Every room is full and the adventurous women couldn’t be more entertaining. The ladies even invite Misty and her assistant Brynn to join them on a ride to admire the colorful fall foliage.
The skies are clear, the air is crisp, and the leaves are gorgeous. The women are having the time of their lives, stopping to enjoy the vistas along the route. But what starts as a perfect ride turns worrisome when the tail gunner – the last rider in their group – fails to show up at the Craggy Gardens overlook. Cell phone service is spotty in the remote, mountainous area, and the group is unable to connect with their friend. Might the missing woman have simply run out of gas? Could a downed tree near Mount Mitchell have forced the missing woman to take a detour or turn back? Or is something far more sinister afoot?
The ladies are determined to locate their ride or die, and Misty is equally determined to help them. But will they be able to solve the mystery when the scenic route seems intent on hiding its secrets?

I like to drive out to West Texas to see the changing leaves. It's beautiful to drive through the Hill Country.
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Austin and love the Texas hill country! Great place to see leaves.
DeleteI love to go to either Michigan or Wisconsin for see the leaves changing colors on the trees. Thanks for your great generosity. Linda May. Maycarlson6848@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteNice! I've been hearing a lot lately about Door County, Wisconsin and have put it on my bucket list of places to visit. I've been to Milwaukee and Madison. Never been to Michigan but hope to get to Mackinaw Island one day, too!
DeleteThank you for the yummy pie recipe. It will definitely be used - especially when we have company that has special dietary needs.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for the opportunity to read and review "A Trip with Trouble" which is most definitely on my TBR list.
On of our favorite trips to see the beautiful fall colors was the year we took a month and traveled up the entire coastline of Maine before hitting the interior part of the state. Then we drove most of the New England states stopping at places like Boldt Castle and Letchworth State Park on our way over to Niagara Falls. Then we dropped through Indiana and Illinois before headed home. The colors were memorable and outstandingly beautiful.
I think anywhere you can find vibrant colors in fall is a sheer delight. Unfortunately our summer has been hot and extremely dry. That means our fall has found us with near empty tree tops as the trees try to conserve their energy. What is left is going from green to brown missing the pretty color stage. Unfortunately, at the present time, health issues prevent us from traveling to see the beauty of fall. I find myself going through our Maine trip photos again to enjoy the fall colors this year.
Thank you for the fabulous chance to win an awesome package including the book I so want to read along with more goodies. LOVE bears! So the stuffed one brings out the kid in me. We even had a black bear come visit us for a few weeks this year.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip - withOUT trouble! haha! My in-laws went to college in Maine and I've been dying to go to Acadia. It seems to keep coming up in conversations and elsewhere. I think the universe is nudging me to go up there!
DeleteOh pie, I love pie! I'll definitely have to be trying this. Very much looking forward to your next book. We don't go anyplace special but we do have very nice fall colors where I live, here in NE Iowa.
ReplyDeletekozo8989(at)hotmail(dot)com
It's nice when you can see pretty foliage at home, too! Pies are the perfect dessert. I often eat leftover fruit pie (blueberry, cherry, apple) for breakfast. I figure it's close enough to a pastry that it counts as a breakfast food. ; )
DeleteYou have a beautiful kitty and write great stories!!!!! Thank you for this opportunity!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We have three dogs and four cats, so our house is always full of fur but I don't mind.
DeleteI live in Nova Scotia so I am lucky enough to look out my window . Every where we look there is colour. Our maples turn a deep amazing red, popular turn bright yellow and orange. Looking forward to starting this series.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! My mother-in-law was Canadian and my son lives there now, though he's on the west coast. We recently visited Banff. Gorgeous! I hope to see much more of Canada, including Nova Scotia, someday! The red maples sound so pretty!
DeleteCongratulations on another book! My favorite place to look at leaves is my own front window because my neighbor has the prettiest trees I've ever seen. She agrees and says it's one reason they bought the house. ckmbeg (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteLandscaping can definitely make a house. How wonderful that you can enjoy her tree, too!
DeleteThank you for this opportunity! any where leaves change is good. Best - New England area. Diane Slonski
ReplyDeleteI used to love the Newhart show where he owned the inn in Vermont. New England is such a pretty place and I love all the history. What those trees have seen ....
DeleteThank you so much for sharing this exciting pie recipe, Diane! It will be a hit with the grandkids!!! Though we are very blessed in SoCal, none of the trees within our area offer any spectacular Fall colors, so we have to be content with looking online or on TV...we used to live in NY and Boston, and there you have cinematic scenery to knock your socks off! I will be looking for your books, Diane! Thank you for giving us readers an opportunity to enter your world and meet your characters. FUN!!! Luis at ole dot travel
ReplyDeleteHow fun to experience both coasts! We lived in San Diego in the early 90's and frequently went up to LA. So fun! And lots of great nature even if it's not fall leaves.
DeleteOur daughter lives in LA and we lived in San Diego in the early 90's. You're right. Not much fall foliage. But luckily there are lots of other pretty natural sites! We used to drive up to a place called Bates Nut Farm that was in the mountains outside San Diego every October. They had a fun pumpkin patch.
DeleteMy favorite place to enjoy fall foliage is on the Blue Ridge Parkway!

DeleteMy favorite place to see fall is West Virginia. Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the yummy recipe! Thanks so much for the chance!!
ReplyDeletejarjm1980(@)hotmail(dot)com
John Denver got it right. West Virginia is almost heaven! We went to the pumpkin house in Huntington a few years back, the Mothman Museum, and the Beckley coal mine, as well as the Grandview park. Loved it! We later went to Harper's Ferry after watching the TV series Good Lord Bird that was about John Brown. I'd move there in a heartbeat.
DeleteWhat a paradise! I love West Virginia, too. We drove up to the pumpkin house in Huntingdon a few years back, and then went to the Mothman Museum and the coal min in Beckley. Also the Grandview overlook. Took our breath away!
DeleteI need to try to this recipe! And clearly, I need to visit WV in the fall; I’ve been talking about doing a leaf peeping tour with my daughter for a while. We live in CA, near Silicon Valley, and while we do get some fall/fall color, it’s nothing to the beauty of fall back there!
ReplyDeleteWe spent three years in San Jose in the late 90's. Loved it there! So much natural beauty within easy driving distance.
DeleteWe spent 3 years in San Jose in the late 1990's. Loved it there! Easy access to so many great natural areas.
DeleteThe pie looks delectable. My favorite locale for fall foliage is the Adirondacks. Just magnificent and very special. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteNever been but would love to go! I do own several Adirondack chairs, though. : ) Very comfortable!
DeleteWalking through the neighborhood. cheetahthecat1982ATgmailDOTcom
ReplyDeleteSo nice when you can enjoy great fall foliage right at home!
DeleteThe little ones would love this yummy pie. Perfect for fall. When I think of the fall I would love to visit the Laurentians since I used to drive there every fall and enjoy the beauty of the area. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI had to look up the Laurentians and I see that they are in Canada. Our son moved to Canada and we recently went to Banff and loved it. We want to explore more of the country. So glad you mentioned these mountains so we can put them on our bucket list!
DeleteI admit I had to look up the Laurentians, but now I want to go there! Our son lives in Canada and we recently went to Banff. It made me want to do more exploring north of the border!
DeleteWelcome, Diane -- delighted to have you and Fritz visit us! We took a drive around Flathead Lake (in NW Montana) yesterday and it was glorious!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I have yet to make it to Montana, but Glacier National Park has been calling to me for years. I hear it's gorgeous up there! I got close this year - Yellowstone. Hopefully, soon!
DeleteSounds wonderful!
DeleteOur favorite place to see thee fall leaves are right on our acres of land here in eastern Iowa. We have been watching all of them turning wonderful colors right out our front door and it is magical. We love driving also up to Wisconsin and seeing all of them on our drive up to a steak feed every month but out our window is the best. peggy clayton ptclayton2@aol.com
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful when mother nature decorates your own yard, isn't it?
DeleteIt's so nice when you can just go out your door or look out your window and enjoy great leaves!

DeleteHe is pretty cute, isn't he? I bet you get lots of great syrup from those maples up there!
DeleteHi, everyone! Thanks so much to Leslie for hosting me today!
ReplyDeleteThere are some pretty beautiful trees right here in Portland, OR, where I live. Having said that, my favorite fall foliage was the time I visited a friend in Denver and got to see the aspens change color. It was breathtaking. aut1063(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI've never seen aspens in fall, so I looked them up. I can see why you were so impressed! Those golden leaves are gorgeous.
DeleteSomeone else mentioned the aspens, too. I didn't realize they turned gold. How wonderful! Now I want to see them, too!
DeleteI haven't been in years however Gatineau,Quebec is one of my favourite fall visors. It is just spectacular!
ReplyDeleteMy mother-in-law went to Vermont in the fall and fell in love with the views, it's on my bucket list along with many others.
Thank you for the recipe. Just in time for Canadian Thanksgiving.
Thanks sandrashenton13@gmail.com
Happy Thanksgiving! My son lives in Canada, too, so we'll miss him for American Thanksgiving this year but he'll have fun doing a pot luck with friends. I am dying to explore more of Canada. We went to Banff a few weeks back and it was absolutely spectactular!
DeleteOur son lives in Vancouver, BC so we'll be doing separate Thanksgivings this year, but we love going up there to visit. Hope to make it to eastern Canada one day! We had plans to go to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls this time last year, but decided against it due to travel rules. But we're going to reschedule and I can't wait!

ReplyDeleteGreat to add some fauna when admiring the flora!
DeleteFlora and fauna - what a great combo!
DeleteI love leaf peeping in Roan Mountain NC and Cades Cove Tennessee. This recipe sounds yummy! Thanks for the chance to win! Luvs2read4fun (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteGreat places! Roan Mountain isn't far from where the series is set. I've been to a lot of places in eastern Tennessee, but not Cades Cove. I hear about it a lot from people. I need to get there!
DeleteI've seen Roan Mountain (beautiful!) but not Cades Coves. Seems I hear people talk about seeing bears there a lot. I need to get there soon!
Delete2harts98@gmail.com I love to see the fall colors in the Pocono Mountains, but I’ve recently fallen in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains too.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your Poconos in a couple of months!
DeleteCan't wait to see your Poconos in December! Maybe they'll have snow on them.
DeletePie sounds delicious deborahortega229@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteIt is! And so easy. I'm actually a very lazy cook, so I like things with a limited number of ingredients that don't take a lot of time or expertise but still taste yummy.
DeleteDenver Colorado is great right now Aspen Trees are turning deborahortega229@yahoo.com
DeleteDana Zamora, thank you for the opportunity, that pie looks awesome, I just drive around the town I live in, northeast Missouri, grammadana60@gmail.com email address

DeleteI love going to our state park to look at leaves!
ReplyDeletebmedrano34@yahoo.com
Sounds perfect! Parks have such nice scenic drives.
DeleteBeing a westerner, gold is the theme of leaves turning and the aspens in Western Colorado are magnificent! Congrats on the new book.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it until reading these posts, but in Canada and parts of New England the red maples are the predominant fall color, and I'm learning about the gold aspens out west. Now I want to see both of them!
DeleteI'd love to see them! I bet they're gorgeous.
DeleteThat pie sounds wicked good!
ReplyDeleteRight now we're watching the almost daily change in the leaves in Downeast Maine. Delightful!
libbydodd@comcast.net
The instant I saw "wicked good" I thought - I bet I know where she's from. Haha! You live in a beautiful place! I'm dying to go see Acadia.
DeleteThe instant I saw "wicked good" I guessed where you might be from. : ). My in-laws went to Bates College in Maine. I'm dying to get up there and check out Acadia. Sounds like you've got some great foliage!
DeleteWe're in Ellsworth, 1/2 hour from Acadia. We live in south Florida, but are lucky enough to have a house here that we visit in the summer and the again in the fall.
DeleteMy favorite place to go "leaf peeping" is Michigan. The whole state has leaves changing this time of year. From the Lower Peninsula to the Upper Peninsula and Mackinac Island the State is alive with color. One of my favorite times of the year.
ReplyDeletediannekc8(at)gmail(dot)com
How wonderful to have a whole stateful of leaves!
DeleteSounds wonderful! I first heard of Mackinac Island years ago. It's been on my radar. Sounds like fall would be a great time to check it out!
DeleteI enjoy the fall scenery here in Montana, but would love to visit the New England area. I hear it is beautiful in the fall. Your pie looks and sounds yummy.
ReplyDeletebella_ringer@hotmail.com
It's a fun pie! Different from the usual. Great for a fall-themed party or pot luck.
DeleteI agree. It's nice to see new places, even if where we live is pretty.
DeleteA favorite and easy place to enjoy beautiful fall leaf colors is right in our neighbor in Massachusetts, about 10 miles east of downtown Boston. So many people said we wouldn't have good color this year because of the summer heat and drought, but apparently not all the trees got the memo. There are some spectacular bright red and orange showoffs right now and others just coming along. lroth(at)pcext(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the trees didn't find out they weren't supposed to be pretty this year. ; ) Nature has so many ways of surprising us!
DeleteHaha! I'm glad the leaves didn't get the message and turned pretty for you anyway!
DeleteI've lived several places where I enjoyed the autumn colors. Many years ago we lived in El Paso. We'd drive up to Cloudcroft, NM to see some green and to see the gorgeous golden quaking aspens in the fall. patdupuy@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteWelcome and thank you for sharing this yummy recipe. Will for sure have to try this. Thanks for sharing this give a way.

When I lived in Michigan, I could go almost anywhere outside of town to find the glorious autumn beauty, especially near an apple orchard that sold fresh cider and apple cider donuts. In Arizona, one has to drive a couple hours N of Phoenix, and car rides get uncomfortable now for that long. I tend to peep at leaves from the gorgeous photos people put on Facebook and seeet memories.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe! I just went gluten free and dairy free earlier this year so I've been learning to make a lot more things from scratch. I live in Northern Virginia so we try to go to Skyline Drive to see the leaves every year. donnaep7@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteGrowing up, we would travel to Mt. Snow, Vermont. Now that I am on the west coast, Big Bear and Julian are lovely to visit

ReplyDeleteI enjoy walking through the local nature parks and seeing the fall colors. mcastor07@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI live in Georgia and it has already began to change. But my family and I usually love traveling from here through South and North Carolina to enter Virginia and see all the mountains with all their beautiful color change. The smell of the crisp fall air and the breeze-all together, it’s just so comforting. Sometimes we head farther into West Va, but Virginia is usually our stopping point. One day, perhaps we will travel farther. My favorite time of season, if I were to have to choose! 🍁
ReplyDeleteMy favorite place to go is Door County in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteWe'll have to try that pie. I'm looking forward to the book. Gotta finish the one I'm reading first

ReplyDeleteI live in Mississippi and we don't get a lot of fall color here. I was born in Washington State, however, and that is still my favorite place to see fall colors on our town's lake.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in Maryland, I could just look out my window. I miss it. I love Autumn, and especially the colors. Unfortunately, where I am now, we just bring in the green plastic plants, and put out the brown ones.🙄
