Win for best hostess gift -- Diane Kelly's S'Mores Pie & a #bookgiveaway!

LESLIE BUDEWITZ:  I did not know, when I invited author Diane Kelly to be our guest today, that she would make me drool on the screen over this gorgeous and easy pie -- or make me wish I could ride a motorcycle, so I could drink in all that stunning Blue Ridge scenery. Since the thought of riding a motorcycle gives me the wheezies, I'll content myself with the book, A Trip With Trouble, the second book in Diane's Mountain Lodge Mysteries, out October 25.

Oh, and pie. That's a given.

Read on and join the conversation for a chance to win one of THREE fun prize packages, including the book. (BYOP.*)

*pie. But you knew that, right?

DIANE KELLY:  Hi, y’all! A Trip With Trouble is the second book in my Mountain Lodge Mysteries series, which stars Misty Murphy, a recently divorced fifty-year-old woman pursuing her dream of running a mountain lodge. In my upcoming release, the motorcycle club enjoys s’mores around the lodge’s outdoor fire pit . . . before one of them ends up dead. Eek! Don’t worry. It wasn’t the s’mores that killed her. It was–well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out. 😉

I loved s’mores years ago as a Girl Scout on campouts, and they’re just as yummy today. But you don’t have to wait for a campfire to enjoy the tastes of s’mores. With this recipe, you can enjoy the taste any day in pie form!

This S’mores Pie recipe is dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan, so it will please even the most sensitive of palates while being better for us, animals, and the earth. Guilt-free indulgence! Hooray!

S’mores Pie by Diane Kelly

Ingredients:

One gluten-free graham-style pie crust (Hint: the Mi-Del brand is gluten-free and vegan; look for other options in your local grocery)

One large box of cook-and-serve chocolate pudding

One bag of mini marshmallows (Dandies are great and they don’t contain gelatin)

Three cups of almond milk

Optional: sliced almonds, shredded coconut

Directions:

Prepare the pudding as directed on the box, using almond milk. Pour hot pudding into the pie crust. Top with a solid layer of mini marshmallows. For a fancier pie, toast the sliced almonds and/or shredded coconut by broiling on low for one minute or until lightly browned. Sprinkle warm almonds and coconut on top of the mini marshmallows. Refrigerate for at least two hours.

Dig in and enjoy!

PRIZE GIVEAWAY! Speaking of “leaf peeping,” my favorite place to peep is in Beech Mountain, North Carolina, where my Mountain Lodge Mysteries are set. Where’s your favorite place to see fall foliage? Comment for a chance to win one of three copies of A Trip With Trouble, along with a luggage tag and an adorable plush black bear. (Leave your email address to enter. U.S. and Canadian addresses are eligible. Winner will be chosen Wed, Oct. 12.)

Good luck!

From the cover of A Trip with Trouble

When the ladies of the Dangerous Curves Motorcycle Club take over the Mountaintop Lodge for their annual autumn ride along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Misty Murphy couldn’t be more thrilled. Every room is full and the adventurous women couldn’t be more entertaining. The ladies even invite Misty and her assistant Brynn to join them on a ride to admire the colorful fall foliage.

The skies are clear, the air is crisp, and the leaves are gorgeous. The women are having the time of their lives, stopping to enjoy the vistas along the route. But what starts as a perfect ride turns worrisome when the tail gunner – the last rider in their group – fails to show up at the Craggy Gardens overlook. Cell phone service is spotty in the remote, mountainous area, and the group is unable to connect with their friend. Might the missing woman have simply run out of gas? Could a downed tree near Mount Mitchell have forced the missing woman to take a detour or turn back? Or is something far more sinister afoot?

The ladies are determined to locate their ride or die, and Misty is equally determined to help them. But will they be able to solve the mystery when the scenic route seems intent on hiding its secrets?

  3. Thank you for the yummy pie recipe. It will definitely be used - especially when we have company that has special dietary needs.

Can't wait for the opportunity to read and review "A Trip with Trouble" which is most definitely on my TBR list.

On of our favorite trips to see the beautiful fall colors was the year we took a month and traveled up the entire coastline of Maine before hitting the interior part of the state. Then we drove most of the New England states stopping at places like Boldt Castle and Letchworth State Park on our way over to Niagara Falls. Then we dropped through Indiana and Illinois before headed home. The colors were memorable and outstandingly beautiful.

I think anywhere you can find vibrant colors in fall is a sheer delight. Unfortunately our summer has been hot and extremely dry. That means our fall has found us with near empty tree tops as the trees try to conserve their energy. What is left is going from green to brown missing the pretty color stage. Unfortunately, at the present time, health issues prevent us from traveling to see the beauty of fall. I find myself going through our Maine trip photos again to enjoy the fall colors this year.

Thank you for the fabulous chance to win an awesome package including the book I so want to read along with more goodies. LOVE bears! So the stuffed one brings out the kid in me. We even had a black bear come visit us for a few weeks this year.

  64. I live in Georgia and it has already began to change. But my family and I usually love traveling from here through South and North Carolina to enter Virginia and see all the mountains with all their beautiful color change. The smell of the crisp fall air and the breeze-all together, it’s just so comforting. Sometimes we head farther into West Va, but Virginia is usually our stopping point. One day, perhaps we will travel farther. My favorite time of season, if I were to have to choose! 🍁

  67. OMG that looks delicious! I love s'mores in any form. I would love to make it up to the NE to see the fall foilage, but a few years ago I was in TN up on the Cumberland Plateau and it was just gorgeous there.

  72. I've never been specifically leaf-peeping but several of the trees in my neighborhood are looking beautiful. So nice to see them on my morning walks. That pie looks fab!

  74. I live in Mississippi and we don't get a lot of fall color here. I was born in Washington State, however, and that is still my favorite place to see fall colors on our town's lake.

  75. When I lived in Maryland, I could just look out my window. I miss it. I love Autumn, and especially the colors. Unfortunately, where I am now, we just bring in the green plastic plants, and put out the brown ones.🙄
