Watermelon Lemonade @vmburns #Recipe

VMBURNS: It's September and Fall is ALMOST here. I had a watermelon that was ripening in my fridge with no desire to just eat watermelon. Instead, I wanted a nice watermelony drink (yeah, I said watermelony). So, what better way to enjoy the watermelon flavor than in a watermelon lemonade? Pouring the watermelon lemonade over Vodka turned this beverage from G-rating to ADULTS ONLY. Don't judge. It's been a long, hot summer.  If you're feeling really fancy, you can dress this up with a few sprigs of mint or try sparking water instead of the regular water. I was thirsty and not feeling fancy, so I didn't, but it was still refreshingly delicious. It was all the tastes of summer in a glass.

WATERMELON LEMONADE

INGREDIENTS
  • 1/2 watermelon (enough for about 4 cups of juice)
  • 4-5 lemons (enough to make 1 cup of lemon juice)
  • 1 Cup granulated sugar (less if you like it tart)
  • 4-6 Cups of water

  • INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Scoop out the watermelon and add to a blender. I selected "liquify" on my blender, but you can use whatever setting you want.

  2. Use a mesh strainer to strain the liquid into a pitcher.
  3. Juice the lemons. Strain and add to the pitcher with the watermelon juice.
  4. Add water and sugar.
  5. Serve over ice.

  • A CUP OF FLOUR, A PINCH OF DEATH

  • On the shores of Lake Michigan, influencer Maddy Montgomery has turned the bakery she inherited from her great aunt Octavia into a destination. There’s just one thing she won’t post: the body in the freezer . . .

  • Thanks to Maddy’s social media savvy, Baby Cakes Bakery is becoming a huge success—so much so that she’s attracted the attention of her former nemesis, the fiancé-stealing Brandy Denton. When Brandy blows into New Bison like an ill wind and disrupts a vlog Maddy’s filming, their argument goes viral. After Brandy’s body is found in the freezer at Baby Cakes, Maddy instantly goes from viral sensation to murder suspect.

  • AS Maddy is still reeling from the murder, a stranger shows up in the bakery claiming to have been a friend of Octavia. He believes Maddy is in danger. When a second body washes up on the lake shore, it seems clear someone’s out to kill to keep a secret—and it may have to do with her great aunt.

Maddy rallies her aunt’s friends, the Baker Street Irregulars; Sheriff April Johnson; and her veterinarian boyfriend Michael—not to mention her English mastiff Baby—to do some digging and root out whoever’s behind the killings. . .

  1. Love watermelon and love lemonade. This may just be my new favorite summer drink! Thanks for the suggestion and the recipe.

This summer I've been drinking a lot of raspberry lemonade (from a mix), fresh lemonade and my all time go to Diet Pepsi.

  2. I'm a big water fan. I drink still, mineral (YAY Kirkland!), Dasani, Buble, Hint. I'll try most at least once, but if they are flavored lean toward the citrus flavors or cherry. Sadly, lemonade with all it's sugar is not an option for me these days. Occasionally, a Coke Zero is on the menu when I need a kick!

    1. I have been trying to drink more water. I generally add a flavor packet. When it comes to soda, I'm a diet coke girl.

  3. Iced Tea with Lemon is a favorite and Homemade Lemonade is so much better than the instant mix. Thank you Deborah
