Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs #recipe #Giveaway @VMBURNS

VMBURNS: Summer is over and Fall officially starts today! So, while I typically think of barbecue as a summer food enjoyed on the grill, I tend to think of fall as the official start of slow cooker season. Of course, if you're like me, then you have found ways to enjoy using your slow cooker year round. Here's a time when you can combine the tastes of summer with the ease of the slow cooker. These fall off the bones ribs are delicious. I am including a recipe for a delicious barbecue sauce, I adapted from a recipe I found online. However, you can make your life even easier and just pick up a bottle of your favorite store brand sauce.

SLOW COOKER BARBECUE RIBS

INGREDIENTS

    • 4 lbs Baby back ribs

  • Spice Rub
    • 1 1/2 Tablespoons paprika
    • 1 1/2 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
    • 2 teaspoons Lawry's season salt
    • 2 teaspoons chili powder
    • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon ground chipotle pepper
    • 1 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Barbecue Sauce (Optional)
  • 2 Cups ketchup
  • 1/2 Cup molasses
  • 1/3 Cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 Cup seedless blackberry preserves
  • 1/3 Cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoon reserved spice rub from above
  • 1/2 Tablespoon liquid smoke

    • INSTRUCTIONS
      1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
      2. Cut ribs into 6 sections then rinse and pat dry.
      3. In a medium bowl, whisk together spice rub ingredients. Remove 2 tablespoons to use in the barbecue sauce if making your own. Rub the remaining rub over the meat and place ribs on the prepared baking sheet. Bake ribs for 15 minutes on each side (30 minutes total) to sear the meat.
      4. Add all of the Barbecue sauce ingredients to a medium saucepan and gently simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce and refrigerate to use after ribs are cooked.

      5. Spray slow cooker with nonstick cooking spry then add a thin layer of barbecue sauce followed by ribs. Layer sauce then ribs until complete. Toss to ensure the ribs are evenly coated.
      6. Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours or on low for 7-9 hours or until the ribs are fall apart tender. Rotate ribs once during cooking so they cook evenly.
      7. When tender, remove from the slow cooker and brush with the reserved barbecue sauce.

      V. M. (Valerie) Burns

In this delectable new cozy mystery series, social media maven Maddy Montgomery’s perfectly ’grammable life has come undone, and she’s #StartingOver in a tiny town with one giant problem—a killer on the loose . . .

When Maddy Montgomery’s groom is a no-show to their livestream wedding, it’s a disaster that no amount of filtering can fix. But a surprise inheritance offers a chance to regroup and rebrand—as long as Maddy is willing to live in her late, great-aunt Octavia’s house in New Bison, Michigan, for a year, running her bakery and caring for a 250-pound English mastiff named Baby.

Maddy doesn’t bake, and her Louboutins aren’t made for walking giant dogs around Lake Michigan, but the locals are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. With help from her aunt’s loyal friends, aka the Baker Street Irregulars, Maddy feels ready to tackle any challenge, including Octavia’s award-winning cake recipes. That is, until New Bison’s mayor is fatally stabbed, and Maddy’s fingerprints are found on the knife . . .

Something strange is going on in New Bison. It seems Aunt Octavia had her suspicions, too. But Maddy’s going to need a whole lot more than a trending hashtag to save her reputation—and her life.

  3. I used to make my own, a slightly sweet, mostly spicy sauce but since I now have to watch my sugar, and have not been able to adapt my homemade to a no sugar added that tastes right, I usually use Ray's Sweet and Spicy. It works pretty well and is much easier! Thanks for the recipe. I will have to try your sauce recipe. I should be able to adapt it.

  7. Congratulations on your fun books, Valerie! I love BBQ, but I am intolerant of onions and garlic, so I have to make my own, with fresh tomato puree and sugar. Yummy. I will try your recipe omitting the garlic and onion powder and see. Thanks for sharing your recipes and your writing talents with us eager readers!!!!! Luis at ole dot travel

    1. Making your own sauce definitely allows you to control the salt and sugar. That's always a plus.

  9. Wow. That's a lot of sweet items in the bbq sauce.
You could run the ribs under the broiler to crisp up the surface.

  11. Wow, love your recipe! I enjoy making my own bbq sauce. Here is the one I make often:

    1 cup ketchup
    1/2 cup white vinegar
    1/4 cup brown sugar packed
    2 tablespoons yellow mustard
    2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    1/4 teaspoon salt

In a medium saucepan, whisk together all ingredients. Heat over medium heat until the mixture begins to simmer, stirring often.
Simmer for 6-8 minutes until thickened, then remove from the heat.
Use the sauce immediately or pour into an airtight food storage container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

Thank you for the chance! Fingers crossed!!
