Spooky Fun with Fruit

Apple and Peanut Butter Halloween Snacks

I love these goofy looking treats. Best of all, only the eyes are candy. So the kids will be snacking on food that's good for them. But next to that, the great thing about these treats is that you probably have almost everything at home, which is very handy in the time of Covid, not to mention on Halloween Day when you haven't got anything else planned.

Main Ingredients:

apples

peanut butter

Googly eyes (but you can make those in a pinch)

Secondary Ingredients:

strawberry

prune

grape

pretzels

nuts

even ham or bologna!

Slice and core an apple.

Now think of peanut butter as your glue and smear it on one or both sides of two apple slices.

Slice a strawberry, half a grape or a prune (also know as a mini-plum) and lay in the middle on the bottom. Add the top slice so the mouth is open to the front. Add a bit of peanut butter to the back of two googly eyes and press on the edge of the top slice. No googly eyes? No problem. Use what you have in the fridge or the pantry. I made these eyes with what I had on hand. On the left, I sliced a marshmallow and cut a little white triangle. The pupils are made of a teensy bit of prune. On the right, I added a dab of peanut butter, then cut a chocolate chip and used two pieces for the pupils.

Did I mention what a fun project this would be for the kids?
