Cover reveal + book giveaway!
I have a new series coming in June, the Fairy Garden Mysteries.
This is the cover for the first in the series, A SPRINKLING OF MURDER.
What's it about?
Fairy garden store owner Courtney
Kelly believes in inviting magic into your life. But when uninvited trouble
enters her shop, she’ll need more than a sprinkling of her imagination to solve
a murder . . .
Since childhood, Courtney has
loved fairies. After her mother died when she was ten, she lost touch with that
feeling of magic. A year ago, at age twenty-nine, she rediscovered it when she
left her father's landscaping business to spread her wings and start a fairy
garden business and teashop in beautiful Carmel, California. At Open Your
Imagination, she teaches garden design and sells everything from fairy
figurines to tinkling wind chimes and trickling fountains. Now she's starting a
book club tea.
But the light of the magical world
she's created inside her shop is darkened one night when she discovers
neighboring dog-grooming business owner Mick Watkins dead beside a fountain. To
make matters worse, the police suspect Courtney of the crime. To clear her name
and find the real killer, Courtney will have to wing it. But she’s about to get
a little help from an unexpected new friend . . .
You can pre-order on Amazon HERE.
And my website has links for all the other venues HERE
Plus you can read a chapter, learn the history of the series, and more HERE.
What is a fairy garden? Well, here are a few I've made. They're sort of like dollhouses for your garden. I've made a video giving a tour of my gardens. I fell in love with this art about a year ago. I couldn't keep doing the big pojects in my garden, due to shoulders and elbows and aches and pains. But petite gardening? Perfect!
You can see more on my Pinterest page and on my Website. ADD LINKS And I've made a couple of how-to videos, if you're interested. HERE
And now for today's recipe!
BLUEBERRY LEMON COBBLER
(Gluten-free
version, serves 4-6)
Blueberry
Filling Ingredients:
3 cups
blueberries, rinsed
1 1/2
tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon
gluten-free flour (*I used sweet rice flour)
1/4 teaspoon
salt
1/4 teaspoon
cinnamon
Lemon Cake
Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup
gluten-free flour (*I used sweet rice flour here, too)
1/2 teaspoon
xanthan gum
2 tablespoons
whey flour
4 tablespoons
brown sugar
2 teaspoons
baking powder
1/2 teaspoon
salt
6 tablespoons
unsalted butter, cold and cut into pieces
8 generous
tablespoons cream cheese
3/4 cup milk
2 eggs
2-4 tablespoons
lemon juice (from fresh lemon)
1/4 teaspoon
cinnamon
*1/8 cup
granulated sugar to sprinkle on top, if desired + 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
*vanilla ice
cream or whipped topping, if desired
Preheat oven
to 350 degrees F.
Line 8-inch
square pan with parchment paper.
In a bowl, toss
the blueberries with the sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside.
In a pastry
blender or food processor, whisk together the gluten-free flour, xanthan gum, whey
powder, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add in the butter and pulse until
the mixture looks crumbly.
Add in the cream
cheese and pulse, then add milk, eggs, lemon juice, lemon zest, and cinnamon,
and mix until the dough has come together but is just combined. It will
resemble cooked oatmeal. *It could be thinner if you added more lemon juice or
used jumbo eggs instead of large eggs.
Spoon half the
dough into the prepared pan and pat, if necessary, to make it even. Distribute the berry mixture evenly on top of
the dough. Top with the rest of the dough and pat to make it even. If desired,
sprinkle with granulated sugar mixed with extra cinnamon.
Bake for 30-35
minutes (or more, depending on your oven and whether you added more moisture as
noted above), until the coffee cake is a warm brown and a toothpick comes out
clean.
*FOR THOSE WHO
WISH TO MAKE THIS USING REGULAR FLOUR, substitute out the gluten-free flours
and omit the xanthan gum.
