MADDIE DAY here. I'm so excited for Scone Cold Dead to release on April 1, a month from now!
If you've read any of the Country Store Mysteries, you know that restaurant owner Robbie Jordan is a native of Santa Barbara, California. In the new book, the 13th in the series, Abe makes fajitas for dinner at home one night and Robbie whips up a batch of guacamole to go top the dish.
I always make my own guacamole at home, and it's super easy. I included the recipe in the book and wanted to share it with you all here. You'll never want to eat store-bought again!
I don't have copies yet of Scone Cold Dead to give away. Nacho Average Murder is #7 in the series, and it actually takes place in Santa Barbara. I'd love to send a signed copy to one commenter here today
Robbie’s Guacamole
Robbie
makes a quintessential Cali-Mex topping to go with Abe’s fajitas.
Ingredients
Two ripe avocados, pitted
1 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1
teaspoon chili powder
1
teaspoon ground cumin
2
tablespoons salsa
Hot
sauce to taste
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Scoop
out avocados into a medium bowl and mash with a fork. Mash in other
ingredients. Correct seasonings and add hot sauce to your own taste.
Serve
atop any Mexican food or as a dip with tortilla chips.
Readers: Would you rather buy a dip in a container or try to make it yourself? Also, who has been to Santa Barbara, and what did you think? I'll send one of you a copy of Nacho Average Murder.
We hope you'll visit Maddie and her Agatha Award-winning alter ego Edith Maxwell on our web site, sign up for our monthly newsletter, visit us on social media, and check our all our books and short stories.
Maddie Day (aka Edith Maxwell) is a talented amateur chef and holds a PhD in Linguistics from Indiana University. An Agatha Award-winning and bestselling author, she is a member of Sisters in Crime and Mystery Writers of America and also writes award-winning short crime fiction. She lives with her beau and sweet cat Martin north of Boston, where she’s currently working on her next mystery when she isn’t cooking up something delectable in the kitchen.
I would rather make a dip myself because it allows for my customization. I have enjoyed reading books in many of your series!

I always prefer homemade, too. Thanks, Nancy!
DeleteI prefer making my own dips! I've never been to Santa Barbara. Thank you for the chance to win.

Good luck!
DeleteLooking forward to Robbie's latest adventure! I can go either way on dips. I don't eat a lot of them. Do love guacamole though. If I make it, I generally just mash the avocados, add salt & pepper, with a bit of lemon juice for zing.
ReplyDeleteThat works!
DeleteThanks for the recipe, I also make Guacamole but with onion, garlic and tomato. Deborah deborahortega229@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAwesome - although raw onion and garlic are not for me.
DeleteThank you so much for Robbie's Guacamole recipe. Will be trying it very soon. Hubby loves avocados. Nothing beats fresh made. Store bought can never compare.
ReplyDeleteSCONE COLD DEAD is on my TBR list and I can't wait for the opportunity to read it. <3
Not sure how it happened, but I've not read NACHO AVERAGE MURDER yet, but I sure would love. Thank you for the fabulous chance to win a copy!

Fingers crossed, Kay!
DeleteI once lived in Santa Barbara County, Homemade Guac is always better than from the store.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteMy guests are much better off if I buy the foods I serve. :) I've never been to Santa Barbara. ckmbeg (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteLOL.
DeleteWonderful recipe, Maddie! Grocery store guacamole in a container? NEVAH! I have never tried cumin in my guacamole, so I am intrigued, and will try it. We grow avocados, and it is lime season now, so this will be great to try. I have been to Santa Barbara many times and love it. It is picturesque, cozy and a real beauty by the sea! I have all your Country Store books, but you can send me your guacamole in a container. I know it will be fabulous :-) I can't wait to read what Robbie has gotten herself into this time in SCONE COLD DEAD! No fooling! JOY! Luis at ole dot travel
ReplyDeleteAah, to live on an avocado ranch!
DeleteWe always make our guacamole ourselves.
ReplyDeleteWskwared(at)yahoo(dot)com
Perfect.
Deletethanks for sharing your recipe. I love to make my own dips. I know what we are eating than. I put a small amount of fresh lime juice and it helps to stave off the brown from the air. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
ReplyDeleteExactly.
DeleteI imagine the salsa means you don't need to add diced onion. One less thing to prep.
ReplyDeletelibbydodd at comcast dot net
I can't eat raw onion, so yes, no onion!
DeleteThank you for this recipe! I make my own guacamole, because most store-bought versions have onions, and I'm not a fan (cooked, yes. Raw, especially red onions, no.). One dip I love is hummus, but I haven't tried to make it yet, because the brand I buy at my farmers market is delicious. Yes, I love Santa Barbara! I've lived in CA for 68 years, and now live about 90 minutes from there, so we often take day trips to Ventura and Santa Barbara (especially in the summer, when it's 100+ degrees at our house). SB has great restaurants and we love walking along the pier and along the beach. lgmiller831@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteIt does! Downtown Ventura is fun, too. My mom retired there for about 30 years until she died.
DeleteI always enjoy homemade and I've never been to Santa Barbara! Congrats on your release! tWarner419@aol.com
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteI've never made guacamole, but your recipe looks like a good one to try. My neighbor's daughter makes a really good guacamole and I always enjoy it when she makes a batch. Now I'll try making it myself.

I always make homemade dips. So good and simple! I have never been to Santa Barbara.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!

I love making guacamole and reading Robbie’s adventures! Thanks for sharing her/your recipe 😊
ReplyDeletehillary(dot)haight(at)gmail(dot)com
I have never tried guacamole, nor have I been to Santa Barbara.
ReplyDeleteI'd probably go to one of the great Mexican stores or restaurants in our town and buy some. They could make some way better than what I could make. And, I love Santa Barbara. lkish77123 at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI like making dips because there are foods that I don't like. I am a California girl and I've been all over the state!! lindaherold999(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI loved this book, actually all of them are so fun 📖🎊 recipes are fantastic. Thank you for sharing your gift of writing and traveling

I would adore a signed copy of your Book's, I have them all but can't get out for signings. My oncologist won't let me in public 😔 so my book's do get signed any more.
ReplyDeleteNacho Average Murder is a fabulous read. I can't wait 4 Scone Cold Dead 💖🎊 Congratulations
