Robbie's Guacamole @MaddieDayAuthor #giveaway

MADDIE DAY here. I'm so excited for Scone Cold Dead  to release on April 1,  a month from now!

If you've read any of the Country Store Mysteries, you know that restaurant owner Robbie Jordan is a native of Santa Barbara, California. In the new book, the 13th in the series, Abe makes fajitas for dinner at home one night and Robbie whips up a batch of guacamole to go top the dish.

I always make my own guacamole at home, and it's super easy. I included the recipe in the book and wanted to share it with you all here. You'll never want to eat store-bought again!

I don't have copies yet of Scone Cold Dead to give away. Nacho Average Murder is #7 in the series, and it actually takes place in Santa Barbara. I'd love to send a signed copy to one commenter here today

Robbie’s Guacamole

Robbie makes a quintessential Cali-Mex topping to go with Abe’s fajitas.

Ingredients

Two ripe avocados, pitted

1 teaspoon fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon ground cumin

2 tablespoons salsa

Hot sauce to taste

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Scoop out avocados into a medium bowl and mash with a fork. Mash in other ingredients. Correct seasonings and add hot sauce to your own taste.

Serve atop any Mexican food or as a dip with tortilla chips.

Readers: Would you rather buy a dip in a container or try to make it yourself? Also, who has been to Santa Barbara, and what did you think? I'll send one of you a copy of Nacho Average Murder.

  1. I would rather make a dip myself because it allows for my customization. I have enjoyed reading books in many of your series!

  3. Looking forward to Robbie's latest adventure! I can go either way on dips. I don't eat a lot of them. Do love guacamole though. If I make it, I generally just mash the avocados, add salt & pepper, with a bit of lemon juice for zing.

  5. Thank you so much for Robbie's Guacamole recipe. Will be trying it very soon. Hubby loves avocados. Nothing beats fresh made. Store bought can never compare.

SCONE COLD DEAD is on my TBR list and I can't wait for the opportunity to read it. <3

Not sure how it happened, but I've not read NACHO AVERAGE MURDER yet, but I sure would love. Thank you for the fabulous chance to win a copy!

  8. Wonderful recipe, Maddie! Grocery store guacamole in a container? NEVAH! I have never tried cumin in my guacamole, so I am intrigued, and will try it. We grow avocados, and it is lime season now, so this will be great to try. I have been to Santa Barbara many times and love it. It is picturesque, cozy and a real beauty by the sea! I have all your Country Store books, but you can send me your guacamole in a container. I know it will be fabulous :-) I can't wait to read what Robbie has gotten herself into this time in SCONE COLD DEAD! No fooling! JOY! Luis at ole dot travel

  10. thanks for sharing your recipe. I love to make my own dips. I know what we are eating than. I put a small amount of fresh lime juice and it helps to stave off the brown from the air. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

  11. I imagine the salsa means you don't need to add diced onion. One less thing to prep.

  12. Thank you for this recipe! I make my own guacamole, because most store-bought versions have onions, and I'm not a fan (cooked, yes. Raw, especially red onions, no.). One dip I love is hummus, but I haven't tried to make it yet, because the brand I buy at my farmers market is delicious. Yes, I love Santa Barbara! I've lived in CA for 68 years, and now live about 90 minutes from there, so we often take day trips to Ventura and Santa Barbara (especially in the summer, when it's 100+ degrees at our house). SB has great restaurants and we love walking along the pier and along the beach. lgmiller831@gmail.com

    1. It does! Downtown Ventura is fun, too. My mom retired there for about 30 years until she died.

  14. I've never made guacamole, but your recipe looks like a good one to try. My neighbor's daughter makes a really good guacamole and I always enjoy it when she makes a batch. Now I'll try making it myself.

  18. I'd probably go to one of the great Mexican stores or restaurants in our town and buy some. They could make some way better than what I could make. And, I love Santa Barbara. lkish77123 at gmail dot com
