Thank you for inviting me back to Mystery Lovers Kitchen!
I'm delighted to celebrate with my friends here the debut of the second
Fixer-Upper Mystery movie on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, based on my book,
CROWNED AND MOLDERING.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Contractor Shannon Hammer works
on plenty of hot properties but is about to tackle her first cold case...
When
Mac Sullivan—famous thriller writer and Shannon's new beau—first moved to
Lighthouse Cove, California, he bought the historic lighthouse mansion that is
the town's namesake. Of course, Mac needs help returning the run-down place to
its former glory, and Shannon is more than happy to get her handywoman hands
busy. But the renovation grinds to a halt after the remains of a missing young
woman are found.
Fifteen
years ago, locals assumed Lily Brogan had simply run away. Now Shannon knows
she must pry the right secrets and clues from Lily's problematic past, and
bring the guilty to justice, before an old murder sparks a new killing...
I thought you might enjoy a few pictures from my visit to
the set of Concrete Evidence.
I felt giddy when I saw Lighthouse Cove—from my imagination—on
the side of a police car.
And…. Action! Deputy Tommy is behind the board. This is the
first scene that I watched being filmed.
The amazing cast: Jason Cermak (Tommy), Erin Karpluk
(Jennifer/Jane in the books), Jewel (Shannon), me (me), and Colin Ferguson
(Mac). They welcomed me warmly, despite working 15- to 20-hour days.
One of the crew members had a pink leather tool belt—a nod
to Shannon's pink tools in the books???
Jewel is lovely and perfect in the role of Shannon.
The charming Lighthouse Cove waterfront. One of my favorite
scenes was filmed here.
I wanted to share a recipe inspired by the book. Buuuuut…
"moldering" doesn't exactly sound appetizing. So instead, I decided
to share a seasonal recipe. What could be more perfect for mystery readers than
deviled Easter eggs? (cue evil
laughter)
Kate Carlisle's Deviled Easter Eggs
12 hard-boiled eggs (I did them in my pressure cooker
because they're easier to peel)
¼ cup + 1 tbsp mayonnaise
¼ cup whipped cream cheese with chives
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
½ tsp lemon zest
½ tsp minced fresh dill
4 oz smoked salmon
Peel the eggs, then slice them in half lengthwise. Put the
yolks in a blender with the remaining ingredients, except the salmon. Blend.
Carefully spoon yolk mixture into the egg whites. Roll a small piece of salmon
and press it into the top.

Deviled eggs are without a doubt one of my favorite foods. I have a collection of recipes and now I will add yours. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what happened, Sue, but my reply to your comment appeared below. (Operator error, I have no doubt.)
DeleteLove this recipe; and I'll definitely be watching the movie tonight! EMS591@aol.com
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy the movie, Liz! If you're on Twitter, be sure to follow me at @katecarlisle. I'll be giving away books and Fixer-Upper Mystery measuring tapes tonight.
DeleteAlthough I am a book lover first I do enjoy watching my favorite characters come alive on the screen. Your devil eggs sound delicious, can't wait to try the recipe. amysue511 @gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amy! I'm glad that you're a book lover first! :D You are my people. ;)
DeleteSo looking forward to tonight's movie! We here at MLK have so much fun following along and commenting. And Jewel fits the role so well.
ReplyDeleteIt really is so fun to all tweet together, Sheila! Makes it feel like a real watch party... with the convenience of being able to attend in one's pajamas. LOL
DeleteLooking forward to tonight's movie.
ReplyDeletejtcgc at yahoo dot com
Me tooooooo! ;)
DeleteI enjoy this series as well as your other one. suefoster109 at netzero.net
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sue. It is such a thrill to be able to alternate between writing the Fixer-Upper Mysteries and the Bibliophile Mysteries. A dream come true!
DeleteThey're one of my favorites, too, Sue! You know what would be fun? A deviled eggs tasting party! Do a few different recipes and let your guests taste test. I think this one would be a favorite. They're really delicious, and the smoked salmon is the perfect complement.
ReplyDeleteLove deviled eggs (wonder how this would be with thinly sliced ham substituted for the salmon?) I also enjoy both of your series! rebarger@bellsouth.net
ReplyDeleteI think ham would taste delicious with this!
DeleteThe book and movie sound terrific I wish I got that channel. The recipe sound delicious. I'm getting hungry for some breakfast now.
ReplyDeletelkish77123 at gmail dot com
Even if you don't get Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, you can still read the book! :) I've posted free excerpts of all my books at www.KateCarlisle.com.
DeleteYour series always are a delight. The recipe is perfect for everyone to enjoy the movie. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm happy you enjoy my books.
DeleteThank you for the recipe. Summer will get here eventually and these are great for picnics.
ReplyDeleteI wish I got the Hallmark channel.
wismomworks@gmail.com
Deviled eggs are a *must* on picnics! ;)
DeleteKate, I absolutely LOVE your Fixer-Upper mystery series and I'm thrilled to see that Hallmark Mysteries & Movies loved them too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Patricia! This whole experience is quite a thrill.
DeleteI can't wait until tonight to see Jewel in Crowned and Mouldering/Concrete Evidence -- she is a wonderful actress, and I love seeing your books come to life. bobandcelia@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteShe really is wonderful in the role of Shannon. Feminine but tough, completely believable as a contractor.
DeleteI'm the designated deviled egg maker in the family, I love making them and trying new recipes. The favored among my family are the Bacon Jalapeño Deviled Eggs I make. I can't wait to try this recipe.
ReplyDeleteforgot my email
Deleteyellowwyytch@yahoo.com
Oh, that sounds so interesting! You can't go wrong with bacon, of course, and jalapeno adds a nice kick without being too hot.
DeleteI love your books. They have entertained me so many hours. I used to have direct tv and watched Hallmark all the time. I retired and had to adjust the budget. I can afford a few small tv subscriptions like Netflix, but hallmark makes it impossible to view their mystery movies. Wish they would offer their channel alone at a fee. In the meantime I love reading books!!!!! Keep them coming!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOneponychick66@hotmail.com
I'm so glad you love my books! Thank you. <3 I'm sorry you're unable to get Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
DeleteCan't wait to see the movie, the books are great. Love deviled eggs. Grandchildren ask for them all the time.
ReplyDeletejudytucker1947@gmail.com
They're a great snack for kids, I think. High protein, lots of nutrients.
DeleteI like deviled eggs but I've never made them.
ReplyDeletesgiden at verizon( .)net
It's fate! Today's the day, Sandy. ;)
DeleteI haven't made deviled eggs in years, but I think I'll try this recipe---salmon in the filling sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeletesuefarrell.farrell@gmail.com
I hope you enjoy them as much as we do, Sue. They really are delicious, and you can have the leftovers for breakfast.
DeleteI love your books. I love Deviled Eggs. ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann. That's so nice to hear! (The books part. Although I'm happy about the eggs, too.)
DeleteLove the series and am looking forward to the movie this evening. Deviled eggs are one of my favorite treats. Dmskrug3 at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm so glad you love the Fixer-Upper Mystery books. That makes me happy!
DeleteI love this series. I can't wait to watch it! The deviled egg recipe looks great. Thanks for a
ReplyDeletechance to win!
My email address is kristilewis.lrc@gmail.com
DeleteThank you for loving my books, Kristi!
DeleteI have the Fixer-Upper Mystery Movie already set up to record tonight. I will be at book club when it airs. I look forward to watching it as I love the books.
ReplyDeleteBoiled eggs in a pressure cooker?? How do you do that? I enjoy eating deviled eggs, but since my family isn't fond of them, I stopped going to all the work of making them. Might have to just start making deviled eggs again with this recipe.
donna (dot) durnell (at) sbcglobal (dot) net
It's probably more appropriately called "hard-cooked eggs," rather than "hard-boiled" because no boiling is involved when you use the pressure cooker. Just do a Google search, and you'll find lots of instructions. Basically, low pressure at about five minutes, if I remember right.
DeleteIf you try the recipe, hope you'll love them!
I enjoy reading all your books! I love that the hallmark network makes movies from the cozy mystery books. I have been enjoying watching the movies from your fixer upper series. I can't get enough of these movies. crossxjo @hotmail. com
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hallmark does a wonderful job of bringing cozies to life. I couldn't be more thrilled and proud.
DeleteLooking forward to watching the movie tonight. And getting the book later. Haven't made deviled eggs in ages. I don't have any salmon on hand. Don't think cod would look that good. Too white. However. I do have large shrimp. So think I will go get the eggs ready. Thank you so much for the books and recipes. And the drawing. Della at deepotter (at) peoplepc (dot) com
ReplyDeleteLOL, Della. No, somehow I don't think cod would have the same flavor. Shrimp is intriguing, though! Let me know how they turn out.
DeleteTurns out I didn't get to watch the movie. A friend called and said she was bored, and no she wasn't interested in TV right now. So I set the DVR to record. We each took a couple of people to call and played canasta for 3 hrs or so. The deviled eggs were a hit. Everybody's taste buds are different. My son (adult) thought they were too bland and drowned the poor thing in Tobasco sauce. To me? That was gross. He snagged one just before I finished wrapping it as I was getting ready to leave. I asked him to go ahead and tell me what he thinks. Then he did that. Horror of horrors. I said "Ugh. gag me with a spoon!! He just laughed, as usual. Thank you for the recipe. We all enjoyed them.
DeleteLove the recipe. I can't wait to see the movie.
ReplyDeletemeowcat_21@hotmail.com
Just four more hours, Cat. Eep!
DeleteThis recipe looks fantastic. I'm looking forward to watching Concrete Evidence.
ReplyDeletebluedawn95864 at gmail dot com
Think of me as you're watching tonight, Bonnie. :)
DeleteKate, I did so enjoy reading about the making of the Fixer Upper Mysteries. I watched the first episode and am excited about the second airing tonight. I hope there will be many more to come!!! I love the cozies being brought to Hallmark. As a writer myself, I love to see friend's work both written and in film. Best of luck with this series!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Coco! In an interview in January, Jewel said they're planning on nine Fixer-Upper Mystery movies. :) The next one will film in June, scheduled to air in October. Very exciting!
DeleteI love deviled eggs! Those would go over well at my son's graduation party. Thanks for the recipe and the contest! :D 2boys4me (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you must be feeling both proud and a little sad that your son is graduating. Deviled eggs are always a hit at parties. Maybe you can tell people the salmon rolls are supposed to represent diplomas. LOL
DeleteLooking forward to tonight's movie based on your delightful series. And thanks for the recipe. elainehroberson@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Elaine, and thank you for joining the fun today.
DeleteYummy deviled eggs. So enticing. The movie is going to be so enjoyable. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteIt is! Can. Not. Wait!!!
DeleteI'll have to try this recipe! But, I'm the only one home tonight, so I think I will think of something else to eat while watching the new movie!!! mommatoodle (at) msn (dot) com
ReplyDeleteIt does serve significantly more than one! :D
DeleteLove Kate Carlisle books and can't wait for the movie. Must make the recipe - but I think I'm make the salmon in the shape of devil horns - lol.
ReplyDeleteOMG! What a brilliant idea. :) If you do, please post a picture on my Facebook page. www.facebook.com/katecarlislebooks
DeleteI wish I got the Hallmark channel so I could watch your books come to life. utaker555@gmail.com

DeleteLove deviled eggs. I will have to try your recipe. Thanks. marierauch@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, Marie!

ReplyDeleteI'll be giving away books and Fixer-Upper Mystery measuring tapes tonight on Twitter during the broadcast! Follow me at Twitter.com/KateCarlisle and watch for the giveaways during commercial breaks.
DeleteThese look and sound devine. And they're perfect because I need something to do with all of my leftover Easter eggs. So this recipe sounds perfect! I am looking foward to the movie tonight. Thank you for the recipe and the chance to win!
ReplyDeletemagicgirl2357@yahoo.com
Less than two hours to go!!!
DeleteLove your books but will pass on any deviled egg!
ReplyDeletekpbarnett1941[at]aol.com
LOL I promise not to take that personally. ;)
DeleteI am going to record it. My mom loved the first one and I promised her I wouldn't watch the second one without her. She is in the hospital, has been for almost two months, she is getting better. I hope she is home by Easter. I can always use a new deviled egg recipe. vlhcats@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteOh, that is so sweet, Vicki. Please give your mom a hug from me and wish her well. I hope she makes it home for Easter. You're a good daughter.
DeleteCongrats on your new movie release. Love this series and looking forward to watching the movie. Recipe is a great use for Easter eggs.
ReplyDeletediannekc8(at)gmail(dot)com
Thank you, Dianne! What fun we're going to have tonight. :D So excited!!!
DeleteWill have to try these! parkeremma2003 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the new film. dammad58(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI love the photos from the set. Just wonderful. I have the show set on dvr for tonight. Do not have access to the remote at night, lol. Thanks for the chance to win and the great recipe as well
ReplyDeletekayt18 (at) comcast (dot) net
LOL In this case, my husband knows that I win the remote! (Fortunately, he's very supportive, so it's not like I had to argue with him over it.)
DeleteWonder how these came to be "deviled" eggs?
ReplyDeletelibbydodd at comcast dot net
That's a good question! I don't know the answer.
DeleteYum, deviled eggs! I like the idea of adding the whipped cream. Thanks for sharing your recipe, photos, and the giveaway! Looking forward to watching Concrete Evidence tonight! aleonardi (at) my.com
ReplyDeleteIt's whipped CREAM CHEESE, Amanda. :) Whipped cream might be okay, too. I couldn't say. But definitely good with whipped cream cheese.
DeleteDoh! Dropped a word. I did see it was cream cheese, just wasn't paying close enough attention when I typed. I blame family distractions. :)
DeleteOmg! Hard boiled eggs in a pressure cooker. Need more details please. Love deviled eggs and pickeled eggs are a must for Easter.
ReplyDeleteGoogle knows all! :) I can never remember exactly how to do it, so I just ask Google. I can tell you that the eggs are really easy to peel when you cook them in the pressure cooker.
DeleteGo, Kate! Delicious congrats on tonight's debut of the new Fixer Upper Mystery. Thanks for joining us today in the Kitchen and sharing those great insider photos. (Love the pink tool belt tribute! We'll be watching with you!)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cleo! I'll see you on Twitter very soon!

ReplyDeleteAwesome photos I love this series! Thank you for the chance, I need to buy your books! I get them at the library. Donamaekutska7@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the movie this evening. Loved the first one. Question: How do you pressure cook eggs? I'm quite comfortable using a pressure cooker, but I've never heard of this. servedogmomATyahooDOTcom
