While you might not think of serving a kid's ice cream float to adults at a summer cookout, or to dinner-party guests as an "impressive" dessert, Marc and I are about to give you good reasons to consider it...

There are layers of beautiful flavor here, making it much more than an overly-sweet kid's treat. It's a superb culinary experience, one you shouldn't miss!
Whiskey Root Beer Float
Serves 1Ingredients:
1 shot Jameson Irish whiskey (or whiskey of your choice)
1 scoop of vanilla bean ice cream
Directions: Pour a small amount of root beer into a pre-chilled, short tumbler. Add your shot of whiskey. Drop in one scoop of ice cream. After the foam settles, slowly fill the glass with root beer and drink with joy!

Ooh, sign me up! I've got the Irish whiskey (did you know there's a brand called Writers Tears?) so all I need is the root beer and the ice cream.
ReplyDeleteSheila - I did not know about the Writers Tears! What a beautiful name for a whiskey. If you enjoy a wee spot in your tea or coffee or, heck, a few fingers in a beautiful tumbler, I think you'll enjoy this float, as well. Thanks for dropping in and may the road rise up to meet you.

What fun! You do know how to have a good time!
ReplyDeleteWe used to make coke floats as kids--tons of ice cream and enough soda to mush it up.
Libby - Ice cream is the best treat, one of those foods that can actually cheer up a sad day. I think many of us have wonderful memories of growing up and enjoying floats or cones or sundaes. (I have really nice memories of my dad taking me out for ice cream. I'll always treasure those.)

I wonder how Irish whiskey would work with a coke float. I never liked root beer and that is one thing that didn't change over the years. Any suggestions for substitutions?
ReplyDeletePat - A Coke float with whiskey should work wonderfully. Other combinations might work well, too. If you were a fan of Dr Pepper soda pop, that's a possible alternative. Or you might try orange soda pop, vanilla bean ice cream, and whiskey (if you were a fan of Creamsicles, that will work for you, if not, the Coke's a better bet)!

Why yes, I think I need to try this soon!
ReplyDeleteI actually had a root beer with dinner tonight. I think I must get some vanilla ice cream and add that along with some whiskey! I never would have considered that combo-but sounds good to me! Rum and Coke, Root Beer and Whiskey...and ice cream! Yumm.
ReplyDeleteThat is definitely worth a try!
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to read this until just now and we have just returned from the ice cream stand where I had a caramel sundae with coffee ice cream. Guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to have my float; would breakfast be a good time. haha. With two grandchildren here for the day tomorrow, I guess it will have to wait until evening. Darn. Thank you for the reminder that there is more to life than plain old soda. Fun posting; keep up the great work as you always do; never disappointed with anything that I read here.
