I'm focused on my upcoming release FOR CHEDDAR OR WORSE (7th Cheese Shop Mystery, February 2016), which means I'm thinking about cheese all the time. During the holidays, what could be better than an easy, simple, yummy appetizer that you can throw together with things you already have in your refrigerator or pantry?
I saw a picture of this delectable beauty on Pinterest and thought, I can make that. What do I need? Four things! Apples, cream cheese, caramel sauce and some kind of crunch on top. I think the one on Pinterest had toffee crunch thingies. I couldn't find those in the store anywhere. But I did find butterscotch minis (like you would put in cookies) and they worked perfectly!
So enjoy this sweet but easy treat while you figure out what should go on your Christmas list or who should come to your house for a treat. Remember be nice, not naughty.
CHEESE AND CARAMEL APPETIZER
Ingredients:
1 block of cream cheese (8 ounces)
4-6 tablespoons of your favorite caramel sauce (I used Smucker's)
4-6 tablespoons of butterscotch minis
1-2 apples sliced thin
crackers of your choice
Set the cheese on a platter. Drizzle with caramel sauce. Top with butterscotch minis. Surround with apples and crackers.
A lovely bottle of sauvignon blanc worked well with this treat, by the way.
