A Thankful Holiday

RileyAdamsFoodBlogPostpic_thumb_thumb[3]Hi y’all. I’m doing a special Sunday edition of Mystery Lovers Kitchen. I’m still in Thanksgiving mode on this holiday weekend, and thinking about some of the things I’m thankful for.

There are a lot of things, actually, that make my list—family, friends, my community.

One thing that grows more and more important to me each year is my love of books and writing. Days when I can’t write, for whatever reason, I really just don’t feel satisfied. When I’m not writing, I’m sure to have a book in my hand or somewhere close by—there’s just nothing like escaping with a good book!

And there’s something special about connecting with other writers, too. I can’t imagine writing before the internet. Writing is such a solitary activity…but with the magic of the internet, we can connect with each other and share our successes and challenges.

So on this Thanksgiving weekend, I’m giving a shout-out to my fellow mystery-loving cooks—and their wonderful books, which have entertained me so much! They’ve provided a terrific year of reading for me, so my hat’s off to them:

Avery Cleo Jenn Julie Krista

Thanks, y’all, for a wonderful past year on Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen!

So now, it’s your turn—what are you thankful for?

Hope you’ve had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

  1. Riley/Elizabeth-

That was such a nice post. I, too, am thankful
for all of my writing friends -- no one understands the process like other writers!

I'm also thankful for central heating. We just got back from four lovely days in the White Mountains of Greer, AZ. We were lucky enough to enjoy a snow storm and the beautiful woods. We had a fireplace in our cozy cabin and a gas heater, but now that I'm back in the city, I am so thankful for central heating in every room!

  2. As a lover of books, especially cozy mysteries, I'm thankful to all the wonderful writers who spend days on end creating another great book for me and others to enjoy. I'm especially thankful to y'all, the ladies of MLK, for the wonderful books y'all have written and for the friendship and support you've shown a non-writer.

  4. Elizabeth this is a lovely post! I am thankful to all of you here at MLK. For the wonderful books you all write and getting to know you the past few months. I love coming here to see what wonderful recipe is going to be next or what book is coming out soon. Cleo thank you for letting me know about this place and for all your help. This is one of my favorite blogs.

  5. Elizabeth, you're going to hear this all day, but I have to repeat - this is really a wonderful post and incredibly generous of you to spotlight all of our books. Thank you! And one of my favorite cozy mysteries this year was yours! DELICIOUS AND SUSPICIOUS, the kick off of your charming, sassy, Southern-style Memphis BBQ Mystery. (You are such a dedicated and gifted writer, Elizabeth. I can't wait for June to read book #2!)

I'm thankful to all of my blog sisters, too -- and our amazingly supportive followers, like Babs and Mason who have already posted! Woot! Finally, I'm thankful to be living in a country that values freedom and tolerance. My research into the coffee trade reminds me almost daily how poor most of the world’s population is. I try to thank God every day for things I don't ever want to take for granted -- medical care, shelter, food. I hope everyone takes a moment during our crazy, stressful season of shopping and eating to give thanks for these basics that truly make us richer than most of the world. So many charities can use our help, too, even if it’s just a few dollars in that red, Salvation Army bucket. Cheers, E! Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. Jenn--It's nice to feel WARM, isn't it? Fun to cozy up to a fire in the fireplace, but nothing beats central heat!

Mason--And thanks for being such a great friend to all of us here at MLK! And for the wonderful reviews you post, which introduce me to new books and authors. :)

Julie--Hope you have a wonderful visit with your daughters! What a treat. :)

Babs--And thanks to you for all your encouragement and support and the great reviews on your site!

Cleo--Thanks for reminding me to give thanks for our wonderful country and all the blessings we have here! You're so right...there are so many places where people don't even have the basics. We love supporting the homeless shelters and food kitchens here...and sharing blessings with others!

A Year on the Grill--And we love yours, Dave! Thanks for being such a great supporter of the Mystery Lovers' Kitchen!

  11. What a lovely post, Elizabeth! I, too, adore my blog sisters. I can't imagine how writers got along before computers and the internet. It's so nice to be able to reach out and commiserate with other authors.

I'm grateful for the friends we've made here, and that MLK has become such a warm, friendly place to visit.

I'm also grateful for every moment of good health among my friends and family, four-legged and two-legged, alike.
