INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine2 eggs
½ cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
½ cup milk
pinch of salt
Optional: 1 teaspoon vanilla and powdered sugar for sprinkling
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
In a 9-inch glass pie plate or cast iron skillet, melt the butter in the oven; swirl or brush the butter along the bottom and side of the plate or skillet.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until the Dutch baby is puffed up, golden in the middle, and browned along the edges.
If desired, sprinkle confectioners sugar over the top and add berries or treat it like a typical pancake, adding syrup or jam.
Cut in wedges like a pie to serve. A Dutch baby makes an excellent dessert as well as a breakfast dish!
For a chocolate version of Dutch baby, see Cleo Coyle's recipe on this blog.

DeleteFor the most part, I am a purest when it comes to pancakes but if have always been partial to blueberry if I need to change it up. I wonder how a gingerbread Dutch Baby would taste, hmmmm. Thank you for your generous giveaway, your stories are great and I would love to add the Gingerdead Man to my holiday cozy collection!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tracy. I love blueberry pancakes too. Never tried a gingerbread one, but why not? Please come back and leave your e-mail address so I can contact you if you win the raffle.
ReplyDeleteGreatly appreciate the delicious sounding recipe for Dutch Baby that I most assuredly will be trying. My favorite pancake without a doubt has to be the one in front of me. Most times that's one with blueberries. We have access to a huge blueberry bush that I've gotten over a bushel berries off on one year. So there's always blueberries in freezer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win a copy of "Gingerdead Man" which is on my TBR list. Love your books and love Christmas stories year round.

Thank you, Kay. I envy your blueberry bush!
DeleteAs a kid my mom only made plain pancakes, so now my favorite is anything added- chocolate chips, raspberry, apple cinnamon, etc. I still like plain ones though. My only hard requirement is real maple syrup. We always tapped our own trees so anything not straight from the tree just isn't the same!
ReplyDeletekozo8989(at)hotmail(dot)com
Thanks for your comment, Alicia. I've never had "straight from the tree" maple syrup. I'm putting it on my bucket list!
DeleteWelcome. Thank you for sharing your recipe. It looks fabulous. My favorite pancake is from Walker Brothers. They make an apple pancake that is bigger than the plate. Our family of four can eat and eat and take half of it home still. It doesnt even need syrup. Just a little butter. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net
ReplyDeletePancakes are so soothing, delectable and perfect especially this winter. I enjoy Lemon Poppy Seed pancakes which are my favorite. Thank you for your yummy recipe which I will try. elliotbencan(at)hotmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI like pancakes, but since being diagnosed with diabetis I don't eat them very often. I do indulge occassionally the last time being blueberry crepes at Bob Evans-sooo good!
ReplyDeleteI prefer crepes to standard pancakes. Thank you for posting, Amber.
DeleteI saw a idea on facebook the other day about using muuffin mix to make pancakes-you can make a lot of different kinds very easily that way.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try it

ReplyDeleteI love regular pancakes, that way I can dress them up anyway I want depending on my mood!!!! When my kids were little I'd make mickey mouse shapes, blueberries for eyes, strawberry for mouth & sometime whip cream or cake frosting. Thanks! nani_geplcs(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite kind of pancake is made by someone besides me.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Rose!!
DeleteLove pancakes. But not very good at cooking them
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is a variation of the Dutch pancake my husband makes with apples. He uses the cast iron skillet. Pour real maple syrup on that baby and I'm in breakfast heaven.
ReplyDeleteI normally have buttermilk pancakes. I've never had a Dutch baby pancake but this looks easy enough so, I think I will have to try it.

Thank you for sharing the recipe. My favorite pancakes are Pumpkin pancakes. I treat myself once a year to them. If I find pumpkin marked down after the holidays, I sometimes will grab a can just for making my own pumpkin pancakes! Crain.julie54@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThat Dutch Baby looks delicious! I let my husband make pancakes these days and his blueberry ones are the best!

I used to prefer buttermilk pancakes, but recently my daughter purchased a Disney Mickey Moused waffle maker. She does a vegan waffle batter because she is allergy to dairy. Yum. And the waffles look adorable. 1cow0993atgmaildotcom

ReplyDeleteOne of my boys used to make these years ago and they were delicious! My favorite is a thinner pancake with butter and syrup - no blueberries!

Thanks for your comment, Karen. I too like thinner pancakes.

ReplyDeleteI like making crepes and filling them with interesting combinations. Surprisingly, strawberries, roasted jalapenos and honey is one of my favorites. We made a Dutch baby for the first time this week, and it may become my new favorite.

ReplyDeleteHave always wanted to try a Dutch baby and may tomorrow since we are snowed in! Thanks for the recipe! bewitched67@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWeird I may be, but I can't remember ever having had a pancake. My family and I are waffle people. I've heard people say that there really isn't any difference between the two, but we just don't do pancakes. Thanks for sharing this recipe (might have to make it and see if those people are right). I am not a big fan of pancakes although I do like German pancakes with not a lot of lemon on them. Wow it has been more than 20 years since I have had pancakes I used to make them for my kids when they were younger but now they have their own families and my son does make pancakes for the grandgirls and they love them. peggy clayton ptclayton2 @ aol.com
