Welcome Laura Childs & Terrie Farley Moran - #bookgiveaway

LESLIE: I am thrilled to welcome back to the Kitchen my beloved cousin, Laura Childs, and her co-author, my dear friend, Terrie Farley Moran, celebrating today's release of GLITTER BOMB, the 15th Scrapbooking Mystery, with a recipe for Southern Spoon Bread and a book giveaway.

Leave a comment below for a chance to win a copy of GLITTER BOMB!

LAURA AND TERRIE: Of all the fabulous events that take place in New Orleans, Mardi Gras is, hands down, the most exciting. Carmela Bertrand and her BFF Ava Grieux are not about to miss a moment of the fun as they drink, dance and lunge to catch beads at the Pluvius Parade festivities. Carmela's ex-husband Shamus rides by on his sparkling gold float at the head of the parade, when suddenly the revelry turns to disaster. Shamus' float crashes and explodes, and although Shamus escapes unhurt, a member of his krewe is killed. Carmela and Ava plunge into an investigation of the krewe-member's death, but as they dig deeper it starts to look less like an accident and more like a murder....and Shamus seems less like a victim, and more like a suspect. Even though Carmela’s fianceé Detective Edgar Babcock warns her to stay away from the murder investigation, Carmela has a knack for nosing out information and a curiosity for hunting down clues.

GLITTER BOMB by Laura Childs and Terrie Farley Moran is the fifteenth book in the Scrapbooking mystery series. Besides teaching a craft or two, Carmela takes readers on a zany ride through New Orleans that includes haunted cemeteries, a fashion show, a sports car rally, and a party at the zoo, all while trying to solve the murder. Still, the girls always find time for a fashionable meal or two at legendary eateries like Commander’s Palace. But when Carmela makes dinner at home, it wouldn’t be a surprise to have Southern Spoon Bread on the menu.

Southern Spoon Bread

1 cup boiling water
1 cup cornmeal
1 teas. salt
1 Tbsp. butter
2 cups buttermilk
2 eggs, separated

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Add cornmeal, salt and butter to boiling water. Cool.

Add buttermilk. Fold in well-beaten egg yolks and mix. Then fold in stiffly-beaten egg whites. Pour mixture into a greased baking dish and bake in oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

Serve as a side dish, scooping mixture out with a spoon.

Serves 4. Beads optional.

For a chance to win a copy of GLITTER BOMB, please comment below, with your email address. Carmela and Ava would love to know if you have ever been to New Orleans. If so, what is your favorite thing about NOLA? If not, they are wondering when you are coming to visit.

(US addresses only; winner will be chosen Friday, October 5.)

  3. Well, it's an unfair question for me. I grew up in New Orleans, so yes, I suppose you could say I've been there. It also means my favorite things are probably not the touristy things - spots that I have special memories; places that "ain't here no more" I went with friends & family; local traditions that don't translate to outsiders. But of the things that are there that tourists can enjoy the same as locals, I would definitely say a sno-ball at Plum Street Sno-Balls, lunch at Commander's Palace, and dinner at Galatoire's are among my favorites. 10. Unfortunately we have never been to New Orleans a fault that I would love to correct some day soon. It is one of our trips on our bucketlist. We moved recently to the northern part of our state seemingly moving away from New Orleans, but I'm not going to let that deter me at all. :)

"GLITTER BOMB" sounds absolutely amazing! I'd love the opportunity to read it and greatly appreciate the chance to win a copy.

Being from the south, the recipe for Southern Spoon Bread makes my mouth water. :)

  19. New Orleans was a regular destination for our family vacations when I was growing up. Anytime we headed east from Texas we made New Orleans our first stop. When we lived in Baton Rouge we went to New Orleans at every opportunity. Great city!! It's recovered from some terrible events both natural and man-made. I often fantasize about having an upstairs apartment in the French Quarter where every morning I could walk to Cafe du Monde to start my day then walk along the Moon Walk then just peruse the shops. My favorite think about New Orleans is simply the unique atmosphere that is the French Quarter. lnchudej@yahoo.com

  36. My parents honeymooned in New Orleans. So for one of our family vacations when I was a young teen, we went there. We ate at Arnaud's where my parents ate on the honeymoon. When Dad told the maitre'd about it, he took us back to see their private collection of the gowns from the mardi gras queens.
I visited New Orleans again in 1975. I went with a friend and we stayed at her gidparent's house in Gulfport. It was Thanksgiving and my birthday, so we went to NOLA and shopped. Everything was decorated for Xmas and it was magical. We went to Al Hurt's club for dinner. It was thrilling to hear Al Hurt perform.

  39. It's been over 50 years since o
I've been to NOLA. Loved it, but the main thing I remember is that I didn't realize how powerful the drink called "Hurricane" was and the walk back to the hotel was very interesting! Not to mention that the elevators weren't working and I had to climb the stairs to the 2nd floor. Actually, I believe I ascended on my hands and knees and carried my pocketbook in my teeth! My sister has never let me forget it!
