V. M. Burns: For some reason, I have had a craving for cinnamon rolls. Normally, when I want cinnamon rolls, I go to the store and buy the Pillsbury rolls and call it a day. No idea what came over me to want to try them from scratch. Okay, maybe I do know. I have a deadline approaching and I might have been procrasta-baking (don't judge). I have shared my fear of yeast and it's still there, but deadline. . . so, here's my first attempt at cinnamon rolls.
CINNAMON ROLLS
Ingredients
- 4 Cups flour
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 Cups milk
- 4 Teaspoons yeast
- 2 Large eggs
- 8 Tablespoons butter
- 1/2 Cup brown sugar
- 1/4 Cup cinnamon
Glaze
- 2 Cups Powdered sugar
- 1 Teaspoon butter
- 1 - 3 Tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1/2 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Mix the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, salt until well combined. Once the yeast is activated (bubbles), add it to the dry ingredients. Using the dough hook on the stand mixer, mix the dough. Slowly incorporate the eggs and butter and mix.
- When the cinnamon rolls are done, drizzle the glaze and serve.

- A CUP OF FLOUR, A PINCH OF DEATH
- On the shores of Lake Michigan, influencer Maddy Montgomery has turned the bakery she inherited from her great aunt Octavia into a destination. There’s just one thing she won’t post: the body in the freezer . . .
- Thanks to Maddy’s social media savvy, Baby Cakes Bakery is becoming a huge success—so much so that she’s attracted the attention of her former nemesis, the fiancé-stealing Brandy Denton. When Brandy blows into New Bison like an ill wind and disrupts a vlog Maddy’s filming, their argument goes viral. After Brandy’s body is found in the freezer at Baby Cakes, Maddy instantly goes from viral sensation to murder suspect.
- AS Maddy is still reeling from the murder, a stranger shows up in the bakery claiming to have been a friend of Octavia. He believes Maddy is in danger. When a second body washes up on the lake shore, it seems clear someone’s out to kill to keep a secret—and it may have to do with her great aunt.
Maddy rallies her aunt’s friends, the Baker Street Irregulars; Sheriff April Johnson; and her veterinarian boyfriend Michael—not to mention her English mastiff Baby—to do some digging and root out whoever’s behind the killings. . .
These cinnamon rolls look like the ones my mom made.
ReplyDeleteAww. They were quite tasty. I am thinking of a few variations next time I try them.
DeleteThese look amazing Valerie! Good luck on finishing the book and happy new year!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYum! Those look delicious! No real baking phobias. I just have learned to never expect it to look like the picture!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good attitude to have.
DeleteMy phobia is baking anything that has to be decorated, even cookies. I am just not artistic. Those cinnamon rolls look delicious and I think I will given them a try.
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand a decorating phobia. I tried to make gingerbread men and mine all looked as though they had a stroke. My gingerbread house was a shack. I was going to make cookies (decorated), but decided to order them from Panera instead. It worked! I hope you try the cinnamon rolls. They weren't the most beautiful, but they tasted great. Happy Holidays!
DeleteGood for you for tackling your yeast bread fears!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you won the battle.
One tip: be sure to let the rolls cool after baking before adding the glaze, otherwise it will tend to melt off.
