Crosby's Sugar Cookies @vmburns #recipe #giveaway

Vmburns: When the first book in my Baker Street Mystery series, TWO PARTS SUGAR, ONE PART MURDER, was being released, my publisher's social media team asked, "how do you feel about making videos?"  As an author, I wanted to say, "I love it. I'll do anything to help promote my books." The reality is that I was screaming in my head. "I feel horrible about it. Bad idea. I'm too old. Too fat. Too boring for videos." Inside my head can be a really cruel place. Instead, I took a deep breath and said, "I have an adorable great niece and great nephew. How about them?" Thankfully, the team loved the idea. So, I found two really simple recipes and enlisted my sister to help. She made chef aprons and filmed Marcie making peanut butter cookies. Marcella (aka Marcie) was four and wanted her own YouTube Channel. My nephew helped Crosby make sugar cookies while his wife filmed them.

I've already included the recipe for Marcie's Peanut Butter Cookies. Here's a sample clip from Marcie's video. I'm totally biased, but I think she's adorable.

Crosby got bored making cookies so his dad had to take over. But, he looked stylish in his chef's apron on top of his pajamas.

Crosby's Sugar Cookies

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 Cups + 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 2/3 cup + 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla
  • Rainbow sprinkles (optional)

  • INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
    2. Beat butter and 2/3 cup sugar until combined.
    3. Add in flour and blend well. Then blend in the vanilla.
    4. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls.

    5. Roll the balls in the remaining sugar until lightly coated and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
    6. Flatten the balls with the bottom of a glass.
    7. Add sprinkles and flatten with the glass.
    8. Bake until edges are slightly golden (approx 15 minutes)
    9. Allow to cool 10-15 minutes.

When Maddy Montgomery’s groom is a no-show to their livestream wedding, it’s a disaster that no amount of filtering can fix. But a surprise inheritance offers a chance to regroup and rebrand—as long as Maddy is willing to live in her late, great-aunt Octavia’s house in New Bison, Michigan, for a year, running her bakery and caring for a 250-pound English mastiff named Baby.

Maddy doesn’t bake, and her Louboutins aren’t made for walking giant dogs around Lake Michigan, but the locals are friendly and the scenery is beautiful. With help from her aunt’s loyal friends, aka the Baker Street Irregulars, Maddy feels ready to tackle any challenge, including Octavia’s award-winning cake recipes. That is, until New Bison’s mayor is fatally stabbed, and Maddy’s fingerprints are found on the knife . . .

Something strange is going on in New Bison. It seems Aunt Octavia had her suspicions, too. But Maddy’s going to need a whole lot more than a trending hashtag to save her reputation—and her life.

      1. My dad loved oatmeal cookies, so when I was a kid, my mom would buy a package every week when she went to the grocery store. Our cookie drawer had oatmeal, oatmeal raisin, oatmeal date nut raisin, etc. So, when I left home, I didn't eat oatmeal cookies for years. About twenty years later, I ate an oatmeal cookie and thought, hmm these are pretty good. Thanks for sharing and good luck!
