Shredded Grilled Cheese Sandwich #recipe w/ book #giveaway from author @DarylWoodGerber

From Daryl:

To celebrate the second week of my new release, I'm offering another BOOK GIVEAWAY today.  Yes, it's SHREDDING THE EVIDENCE, or winner's choice of any Cookbook Nook Mystery. Leave a comment below.

I'm so excited to tell you about this new release. If you missed the announcement last week, it's SHREDDING THE EVIDENCE, the 9th Cookbook Nook Mystery. I didn't think I'd write more than five book in this series, but I am continuing on because I'm having so much fun developing the characters, their lives, their loves and heartaches. The characters have become like family to me.  And in this "new normal" of quarantining, it's nice to have "family" around.

So why the title and what kind of recipes are there? Well, let me share the brief blurb and you'll get the idea:

The denizens of Crystal Cove are salivating over the upcoming Food Bowl Week, when local chefs offer some of their best and most imaginative creations in bite-size portions all over town. Bookstore proprietor Jenna Hart is hungry to sample as many of the delicacies as she can, but when she stumbles onto the dead body of a local food reporter and learns that her best friend’s husband is the primary suspect, she’ll have to summon the appetite for a side dish of sleuthing to prove his innocence.

Um...around that dead body? Shredded paper.

And Food Bowl week? There's plenty of shredded food, like shredded pork sandwiches, bird's nest salad, shredded grilled cheese sandwiches, and yes, shredded coconut desserts, like the one I shared last week.

So here's the shredded grilled cheese sandwich recipe. So simple. So tasty.

Shredded Grilled Cheese
(Makes 2 sandwiches)

4 slices bread
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons cream cheese
6 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
6 ounces parmesan cheese, shredded

Butter each slice of bread on one side. Spread the cream cheese on the other side of the bread. [Note: The cream cheese side is the inside of the sandwich; the butter side is the outside.]

In a small bowl, mix the shredded cheeses.

To assemble: Top two slices of bread, cream cheese side up, with shredded cheddar cheese and half of the parmesan cheese. Set the other slice of bread on top of the sandwich and press slightly.

If cooking on a stovetop: Heat a large skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes. Set the remaining parmesan cheese on the skillet. Set the two sandwiches on top. Cook the sandwiches on the skillet for 4 minutes, until golden brown. You can add more parmesan on top and flip (sort of messy), or lift out the sandwich, sprinkle extra on the pan, and then flip. Flip the sandwiches, using a spatula, and cook another 2-4 minutes. You can compress the sandwich with the spatula. Turn the sandwich one more time. Press down with the spatula, and remove the sandwiches from the pan. Let cool about 2-3 minutes, and serve.

If cooking on a panini or sandwich maker: Set the remaining parmesan cheese on the griddle. Set the 2 sandwiches on the cheese -- you can add more parmesan on top, if desired -- and slowly lower the top of the sandwich maker. Cook for a total of 4 minutes. Remove sandwiches from the griddle and let cool 2-3 minutes, then serve. Beware, the insides might ooze out the sides. If the lid is too heavy, you might want to consider resorting to the stovetop method.

  37. There have been a few series that made me feel that way just because the story progresses in each book and you learn more about the main character and all the surrounding characters. You become invested in the story kind of like a soap opera or weekly tv series. Deanna Chase, Denise Swanson, Joanne Fluke and Hope Ramsey are just a few of the series that I have loved seeing how the characters are developed. Saamm7(at)msn(dot).com

  38. I think that when I start reading a series I find something about all of them that I love or can relate to. Gemma Halliday's High-Heels Series is one of my favorites though. What girl can't relate to a diet coke drinking, McDonald's eating shoe designer that has a thing for becoming involved in solving cases. Thank you for the recipe and opportunity to win one of your novels!

  40. I read so many books that I'm always surprised when I start a new book and find an old friend from a previous read! Of course, there are times when I feel compelled to read every book in a series from the beginning and if I should happen to read one out of order, I usually go back and read the previous ones if I love the book. Now I'm
thinking about Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup, a favorite meal!

  42. First I have to say I LOVE your books! I've not read any that don't deserve five stars.

Outside of your books, I would have to say I have fallen in love with Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida in the Cozy Capers Book Group Mystery series by Maddie Day. Between Mac and the Cozy Caper Book Group, I feel like I'm settling down with old friends when I pick up one of the books. Although recently released MURDER AT THE TAFFY SHOP is only the second book in the series, I know I'm already looking forward to book #3.

Thank you for the fabulous opportunity to win one of your books! Shared everywhere and hoping to be the fortunate one selected.
