Welcome to Twin Oaks, where ranch living is fun, cowboys and cowgirls are hungry, the food is tasty, and I tell tales in my Smokin’ Hot Cowboys series.
In Cowboy Firefighter Christmas Kiss (Book 5), Ivy Bryant, reluctant honky-tonk manager, joins forces with Slade Steele, cowboy firefighter and award-winning pie baker, to catch cattle rustlers and solve the mystery of the missing Fernando—eight-year-old Storm Steele’s beloved Angus bull. Storm insists Fernando will somehow make his way home for Christmas.
To the surprise of everyone, Fernando sightings spread across North Texas, and he becomes famous on television, radio, and social media. While folks in Wildcat Bluff County prepare for Christmas festivities and search for Fernando, Slade bakes delicious cowboy cookies to lift their spirits.

Kim's inspiration for "Fernado" the missing bull! |
I couldn’t resist the opportunity to share some of my favorite Texas goodies, so I included several recipes in the back of Cowboy Firefighter Christmas Kiss—and my cowboy cookie recipe right here. These are fun cookies for Christmas, or any time of the year.
What makes these cookies special? Whiskey, of course. For authentic flavor, I use whiskey made in Texas, and there are several great available brands. I also like Texas pecan coffee with my cowboy cookies for a complete ranch experience. Enjoy…while imagining you’re on a trail ride, at a campfire, or even catching up with folks at Twin Oaks.
KIM REDFORD’S COWBOY COOKIES
Ingredients

1 cup butter (or shortening), softened
1 cup white, granulated sugar
2 ¼ cups flour
1 large egg, lightly beaten with fork
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whiskey to taste
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients using a wooden spoon or handheld mixer. Chill dough thoroughly. Mold into walnut-size balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake about ten minutes. Makes approximately thirty cookies.

Cowboy Firefighter
Christmas Kiss
Christmas Kiss
The firefighting cowboys of Wildcat Bluff County take Christmas very seriously…
When Ivy Bryant arrives at Wildcat Hall, she goes from website designer by day to honky-tonk manager by night. How to handle it all? Enter Slade Steele—rancher, firefighter, and proprietor of the Chuckwagon Café—who offers his services. Add his award-winning pies and a fiery chili recipe with chocolate to the menu, and folks will stream in the front door. It’s an offer Ivy can’t refuse, even though the passion between them is already at the boiling point.
Ivy and Slade’s love story quickly becomes legendary. Throw in Fernando the bull, cattle rustlers, and a wild trail drive, and the scene is set for Wildcat Bluff to celebrate a rollicking cowboy Christmas.
Praise for Kim Redford's Christmas Kiss
Publishers Weekly:
“With a little help from Fernando the bull, an overabundance of sweetness, and a healthy dose of mischief, this Christmas story is certainly memorable.”
Booklist (Jenna Friebel):
“Redford (Hot for a Cowboy, 2019) delivers a country Christmas romance as sweet as pie and spicy as chili.”

DeleteLooks good! How much (or how little) would be to taste? A tablespoon?
ReplyDeletepatdupyt@yahoo.com
Pat, please see my answer below since it showed up out of order. All I can say is, "I must have been taste-testing too much cowboy cookie dough!"
DeleteSounds like a delightful read. Thanks for the cookie recipe.
ReplyDeletejtcgc at yahoo dot com
You're quite welcome for the cowboy cookies recipe--do enjoy! And good luck with the contest!
DeleteHey Pat, great question! You might start with a half cup because the alcohol bakes off. Also, it depends on the proof of the whiskey, as in 100 proof will be a stronger and sweeter taste than 45 proof. And watch out for all that taste-testing of the cookie dough--everybody's favorite! Good luck in the contest, Kim
