The Pasty: This post is totally Riley's fault!

Okay, ever since Riley posted her
beer blog last week, I've had a
hankering for a pasty. There is
nothing (in my opinion) that
goes better with a hearty beer
than a pasty. So, here's my recipe
for a delicious dish to go with Riley's
recommended beer!
(Check out her post: A Side Order of Beer)

Jenn's Favorite Pasty

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef
2 tbspns butter
1/2 cup diced mushrooms
1/2 cup diced onion
1 clove garlic minced
1 tbpsn flour
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots (chopped)
2 tbspns Worcestershire sauce
1 package prepared pie crust
1 egg, slightly beaten

Directions: Preheat the oven to 425.
Brown the ground beef, drain and set
aside. Melt the butter and add the
mushrooms, onion and garlic, cook
on medium heat about five minutes. Sprinkle in the flour and add the water.
Add the peas and carrots and Worcestershire sauce. Mix the ground beef
back into the pan and cook until the vegetables are heated through.
Unroll the pie crusts and cut them in half. Spoon the filling onto one side
of the pie crust and then fold the other half over. Use the beaten egg to
seal the crust together and crimp with a fork. Brush the top of the pie crust
with the beaten egg. Bake for ten minutes until golden brown.

Enjoy! And if you have a Newcastle
to go with it -- all the better.

  1. Bwahahaha! :) Sounds like we're a good pair to push a beer agenda. This looks like the perfect recipe for supper tonight!

I'm a huge chocolate fan, too. I think it goes well with beer, as well. :)

  3. Hey Jenn - favorite color black - that's one I rarely hear. Very cool! If you looked at my wardrobe, you'd probably think that was my favorite as well ;-) This recipe looks delicious, but am I the only one here who conjured up a totally different image when I read the word "pasty"?
    ;-)

  4. This pasty looks amazing! The color fabulous. And black is your favorite color? I adore black! It's not my "favorite" -that's a secret. But I wear black all the time!

  5. LOL! My son helped me with my one word answers.
He came up with chestnut for hair (he said brown was boring). He also decided black must be my favorite color because that's what I always wear.
Too true -- it goes with everything. I did go
through a pink phase a few years ago, but I'm trying to put that behind me;-)

Enjoy the pasty (with beer) -- it's perfect for winter!

  6. Jenn, that hot pasty does look perfect for those of us stuck in mounds of snow. What a great way to get kids to eat veggies, too.

Your son is very clever to come up with chestnut to describe your hair. Another writer in the family, perhaps?

  8. Love the history behind Pasties - Cornish mine workers took them for lunch, though that was a heavier version, usually with turnips or potatoes added. These look lighter and better - will have to give them a try.

  9. Pasties bring back so many wonderful memories for me! My family used to vacation in northern Michigan every summer and we always had pasties as often as possible during that time. I still search them out when I head north!

  10. I'm back now. I read your blog aloud to my hub. We both decided we were famished and had to break for lunch. Like our Grill Man (above) I must agree this is a great presentation and easy, too. Can't wait to try it with (as you suggest) a cold, frosty mug of lager! (Loved your one-word answers, too!)

  11. Thanks for the great recipe! Being married to an Australian I know that the way to his heart is through what I'd call "English" cuisine. I'll give it a try. Maybe I'll make heart-shaped pasties for Valentines Day...
