LESLIE BUDEWITZ: A few weeks ago, Mr. Right and I took a vacation to Hawaii, spending a few days in Hilo on the Big Island and wrapping up on Waikiki, in Honolulu, on Oahu. It was warm and wonderful, and I could regale you bite by bite with the food—my husband was beyond thrilled to eat ahi five times, four different ways, in nine days. It took me far too long to get my macadamia nut ice cream, but it was worth the wait. And oh, the glories of garlic shrimp yakisoba and a blood orange margarita with Hawaiian chili pepper salt on the rim, with Hilo Bay in front of us!
But the highlight of the highlights was having dinner with Leslie Karst and her wife Robin in their Hilo home, a 1930s plantation style house that is long on charm and brims with life and generosity. The kitchen is roomy and welcoming, and appears little changed over the decades. Leslie and I realized we’re probably the only two MLKers to have visited in one of our homes. That got me thinking about our kitchens, and inviting you in through the magic of pictures.
Double Leslies -- in Leslie K's Hilo backyard
And 15 years later, I still walk in and love every inch of it.
Dining room table and the view outside, from the kitchen. Originally, the dining room was half the size and the rest of the space was a ridiculously large bathroom with one small window!
A closeup of one of the kitchen pendant lights -- a trio hang over the dining room table, and sconces in the same colors hang on the dining room wall.
The inspiration plate, found in a tiny shop in Avignon, France. We loved the colors and textures -- it feels like an abstract of a bougainvilla vine against an old plaster wall -- knew immediately those were the colors and the feel we wanted.

LESLIE KARST: Oh, my goodness, was it ever fun to host Leslie B. and Mr. Right chez nous, here in Hilo! As she says, our house here is a 1935 Plantation-Style single frame construction home with its original kitchen--including built-in cabinets and a gorgeous (though now somewhat pitted) 1930s-era enameled cast iron farmhouse sink. I do love to experiment with local ingredients from the farmers market to create recipes for my Orchid Isle mystery series: bok choy, ahi tuna and mahi mahi, papayas, apple bananas, Japanese eggplant, wing beans, Maui onions, the list goes on and on...
in my Hilo kitchen
But Robin and I live half time in Santa Cruz, California, as well, which has its own benefits--including my beautiful kitchen there, with tile counters and floor and gorgeous wood paneling that the previous owner (from Lucca, Italy) remodeled back in the late 1960s.

🌱 🍋 🌿
PEG COCHRAN: I've had several different sorts of kitchens over the years. I had two galley kitchens (that hubby and I both managed to cook in at the same time) in our NYC apartments. My two houses in NJ had smallish kitchens but we were able to shoehorn in a kitchen table (which our Bearded Collie nearly chewed the legs off of). It felt like such a luxury after our NYC apartments.
Then we moved to Michigan and had a house that had a huge kitchen. We swapped out the appliances for stainless steel, installed a new backsplash, added granite countertops and it was perfect with white cabinets, an island, a desk and a little bar area.
Now we have moved to a condo for ease of living. The kitchen is a lot smaller but it suits us now. We revamped it a bit replacing the appliances with stainless steel, a new sink, quartz countertops, a new backsplash and a slate floor.
I think this is after Christmas dinner
🍋 🍳 🍈
LUCY BURDETTE: Like Leslie K, we live in two places with two kitchens. The one in CT we designed and I love it. Lots of space for extra sous-chefs, and part of the counter is recycled wood from an old barn. The pantry is to die for. In Key West, we bought a condo designed and furnished by a single guy. It's long and narrow and all covered in faux stainless. Not what I would have chosen--it's a little stark but it's pretty and produces good food:). PS it does not look all neat and perfect like this IRL--in real life!
PPS I can't help sharing this adorable kitchen that was built by the brand new Key West Cooking School. I especially covet the turquoise appliances!
🌱 🍋 🌿
KORINA MOSS: Lucy, that Key West Cooking School kitchen is adorable! I'd love to copy it if I could renovate my kitchen. It is sorely in need of one. The last time I did a renovation was almost twenty years ago when I designed my dream kitchen. Here's a photo of my son giving it the thumbs up. It wasn't quite done yet--as you can see, it still needed the backsplash installed. Unfortunately, I don't know where any of the other photos of it are. (This photo was likely taken with a real camera, not on a phone.) And even more unfortunately, I only got to enjoy my dream kitchen for less than a year, because we ended up moving.
My next kitchen had a huge center island, which was very convenient for cooking and baking and reading the newspaper during dinner.
The kitchen in my current home is an alley kitchen separate from the rest of the house, which I prefer--it's easier to ignore the dishes piling up in the sink! Rather than show you a photo of that, I'll show you my favorite piece in the kitchen. I'd been looking to put something in this space at the far end between the windows that had been empty for almost a year and finally found this perfect little end table at a thrift store. I use it for my keys and mail, so I don't have to use up counter space.
🍲 🥘 🍲
MADDIE DAY: I love my kitchen, which I designed when we moved into this antique home thirteen years ago. Hugh gutted and rebuilt the entire inside of the house. In the kitchen, the white subway tiles fit the late-1800s age of the house. The backsplash got a contrast line of black, and I added pops of color with the mixer, the teakettle, and the utensil holders. The room has plenty of counter and storage space, room for several cooks working together, an island topped with antique wood from our previous home, and an over-sink window looking out on the back garden. The only thing I didn't get was a vertical cookie-sheet cabinet. Oh well!
We took down a wall between the kitchen and the sitting room, which makes the room much airier and lets me talk with folks at the table or sitting around the coffee table while I'm cooking.
And I even got built-in cookbook shelves!
🍳 🍒 ☕
MOLLY MACRAE: Our little old house has a little and very efficient kitchen. The people we bought the house from did a great job remodeling it, making use of just about every available inch of space in the 7’x11’ room - they even put in a vertical cookie sheet cabinet (I love it, Edith!). It'd be nice to have new countertops (so tired of beige Formica) and nice to have more counterspace. Maybe for a stand mixer? We could free up some room by getting rid of the behemoth microwave, but we bought that thing 41 years ago and it’s still going strong. Oh, the stories it could tell. Abandoning it now would feel like a betrayal. Give the countertops a few more years and they’ll probably reach that status, too.
☕ 🌷 ☕
Our dream kitchen, it is not. But, after recently celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary, we can honestly say that we could not be happier cooking together in our fugly little kitchen. :) Rather than showing you the stains on the wall and the clutter on our counter, we have snapped two pictures of our favorite features....
Above is a pic of our packed (and supremely useful) spice shelf, which sits conveniently above the double stainless steel sink and ancient cabinets. And sitting on the bottle of white pepper in the middle of the shelf is our kitchen totem...
Why is Baby Yoda (aka "Grogu" in the Star Wars universe) sipping on a cup above Cleo Coyle's sink? Well, Marc and I loved our time developing and writing books tied to the second Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm (back when George was still running the show). We were Star Wars fans as kids, so having that experience was special for us. Our little "Baby Yoda" is a daily reminder of the great times we had at Skywalker Ranch. And reminders of good memories are always welcome. They're the very things that make a house (or a kitchen) your own. 🌷 ~ Cleo

Deletetskeet1962@yahoo.com these books look so good
DeleteMy kitchen is small. Cooking consists mostly of microwaving food found in small boxes in the freezer.
ReplyDeleteI love all of these kitchens. My husband and I redid our kitchen about 5 years ago and it was the best thing!!! I have a pantry cabinet that is full...although my daughter has overtaken it with dog treats LOL. We put in marble counter tops and backsplash and new appliances. I love it!!!! Kitchen are always fun and seem to be the place company gathers.
ReplyDeleteLove the dog treat pantry! I've done 2 complete kitchen remodels and they are a total PITA -- but worth every minute of the long disruption when you love the results!
DeleteThanks for the pictures! I enjoy seeing other kitchens. Our kitchen is small and could use new counter tops but it works just fine. I'm a baker and there is enough room for that. it's been almost 40 years and still going strong.
ReplyDeleteHi, Annel - We have a small kitchen, too, here in New York, and we make the most of it. Lots of clutter, limited counter space, but a great deal of cooking and baking, so we can relate!
DeleteThink the best kitchen is the one that works best for you. We have had a few and seemed that each one got better than the one before. We finally got to build our dream kitchen when we designed and built as our forever home 8 years ago. Being our last home (please Lord), we decided to put in the things we had always wished we had or had longed for. In the kitchen area, that meant granite counter tops we got to pick out that are wider than normal that allow for things left out, like my Kitchen-aid mixer or microwave oven, on them to be way back and still leave room for working up dough or cutting out cookies on the front part, a farmhouse sink, stainless steel appliances, large built in pantry with easy roll our shelves, plenty of Amish made cabinets that we had shipped in for the kitchen, laundry area and bathrooms (We went to Shipshewana, IN and talked to the cabinet maker we had picked out. He knew our Mennonite builder so they worked together on making sure measurements were exact.), the backsplash that worked with the granite and lots of space since most times hubby and I are both in the kitchen. We both love to bake/cook both independently and together. It turned out even better than we could have imagined. Here 8 years later, we won't have changed a thing.
ReplyDelete2clowns at arkansas dot net
Kay, that sounds wonderful! And it's such a joy to know it turned out just the way you wanted -- or even better!
DeleteI Love all these kitchens, there is something special about each one. We are redoing our kitchen, had to drop the ceiling and make repairs. If I could but cannot, because of gas and water pipes, I would love not to have my washer and dryer in it. But I love our dropped lightening, and baking bar. mewalker958@gmail.com.
DeleteLarge kitchen with wood cabinets, double stainless steel sink lots of windows to the back yard. Deborah deborahortega229@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteOh, what a lovely dream! Wait -- that IS my kitchen, except for the size. But the two of us can cook in it together, easily, so it's perfect!
DeleteWhat a fun post! Thanks for sharing your kitchens! We remodeled our kitchen last year after living in our home for 23 years. I love my built in spice rack! My spices were always a mess before. Now I can find what I need quickly!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
jarjm1980(at)hotmail(dot)com
Oh, the spices! Always a challenge. Love Cleo and Marc's Baby Yoda, keeping guard!
DeleteJarjm - Kudos on the spice rack mention. And Leslie, I was thinking of you and your Spice Shop Mysteries as I snapped my photo. Baby Yoda is sitting on his pepper and waving to your Pepper!
DeleteWe remodeled our kitchen almost ten years ago and I love it. We tore down the wall between the kitchen and dining room. If I could have one wish it would be for an island. It just isn't big enough for one. ckmbeg (at) gmail (dot) com
ReplyDeleteIslands are great, but peninsulas work beautifully, too -- we created one.
DeleteMy kitchen is small. 2Don't have room for much except a small table and 2chairs. Wish it were larger but it suffices for one person. mjmphila@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteHi, Marie -- We have a small kitchen, too, here in NYC. Clutter galore, but we've made it cozy. In the winter, the oven warms up the space nicely, too (saving on the heating bill, also a plus :)).
DeleteBeautiful kitchens! Love each story! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHillary(dot)haight(at)gmail(dot)com
I wish I had a little more space so I could have an island. Would live extra counter space for baking and prep and extra storage for pans.
DeleteI think we pretty much all want a little more space -- except maybe Edith and Leslie K in her Hilo kitchen!
DeleteI have to have lots of counter space. I tend to spread out, especially when baking. Also need lots of cupboards/storage space, but NOT white. I don't understand that trend at all. We've always had a good sized kitchen, room to move around, so I think a too-small kitchen would be a deal breaker for me.
ReplyDeletekozo8989(at)hotmail(dot)com
What I love about my kitchen is that, it's mine (long as I live in the apartment). There's room for my bread maker and my electric tea kettle. It's a little kitchen, but not the smallest I've ever had. John A. Long johnlong83@rocketmail.com.
ReplyDeleteSmall kitchen here. Wish there was more counter space
ReplyDeleteWskwared(at)yahoo(dot)com
The thing I most love in our kitchen is the counter space and the large stand alone cabinet the has most of our canned goods.
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to be able to totally remodel my kitchen. I took measurements and decided which cabinets could fit where. I have slide out drawers to keep so appliances put away and I have lots of counter space.
ReplyDeleteLucky you!
DeleteThe best thing about my kitchen is that it is an eat- in kitchen open to the sitting room and it has a large window for a lot of light. The actual cooking part definitely needs a remodel and I would love more counter space. baileybounce2@att.net
ReplyDeleteLove eat-in kitchens! We often sit at our peninsula, and it's always sweet.
DeleteMy kitchen is not what I want it to be... Yet!! But I love that it's mine.. I finally own my own home and can do what I want with it.. now just to decide what I want... But my favorite thing is the family dinners when my kids their partners and my grandkids all come over for dinner and the love and laughter that fills the room.
ReplyDeleteForgot it needed changed from anonymous to my name.. so here's my name Dana Jaques Chamberlin
DeleteThat is what makes a kitchen a real kitchen!
DeleteWhen I moved into my house some 30 years ago I thought it was huge after years of galley kitchens. It is open to the eating area and family room. Now I dream of a walk-in pantry, more drawers, a spice cabinet and yes, that vertical space for baking sheets! What I love most about my kitchen is that it has several windows providing lots of natural light. makennedyinaz at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely, Marcia!
DeleteThough yes, we probably all want another cabinet for baking sheets! I have one narrow cabinet next to the stove and thought we'd get another on the other side -- but the cabinet maker mismeasured, and it had to go!
DeleteI enjoyed all the kitchen stories. I wish I had a bigger kitchen, but I do ok in mine since I am the only one ever in there cooking,
ReplyDeleteI like my kitchen and it's just big enough for my husband and I. We removed wallpaper and painted a few years ago. My cabinets could use a refresh but other than that I love it.
ReplyDeleteI forgot my email. dl.mandmlover@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love my 2 story house but the kitchen is only big enough for one! Lindaherold999(at)gmail(dot) com
ReplyDeleteI love seeing other people’s kitchens. All of shown are wonderful. What really makes a kitchen is the love in it. Thcoffman65@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely write -- er, right: The secret ingredients are LOVE and JOY!
DeleteWe have a large kitchen with a big island. large counters for prep, and a big kitchen table and chairs, but the built in oven is narrow and small so very difficult when you are having company and several items cooking and baking at once. Completely inadequate and poorly planned. It is from the 80's and the built in fixture stretching across the ceiling is ugly. Plenty of cabinets for storage and for pantry items. Many cons and some pros. Needs a total redo. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteOh, those 80s and 90s ceilings! Ours was dropped and taking it out made such a difference visually. Yay for all your storage!
DeleteThe kitchen house in our rented townhouse is small with limited counter space. I wish we had more counter space and cabinets.
ReplyDeletejtcgc at yahoo dot com
Cozy mysteries with recipes have inspired me to start cooking again, even though there's not that much space in my kitchen. What I love most about my kitchen are the colors: it has a beachfront theme to it. wifeofanubis321@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSo happy to be part of your inspiration to start cooking again! And I love the idea of a beachfront themed kitchen!
DeleteThose colors sound delightful! And we are THRILLED that our books have inspired your cooking! (As they have for each of us -- we have to keep up with our characters!)
DeleteIm not a fan of my kitchen because I need more cabinets and counter space. A pantry would be nice too. I do love my Smart appliances though!
ReplyDeletenjcar22(at)aol(dot)com
Ooh, cool! Though I suspect smart appliances would make me feel dumb even more often than I do!
DeleteMy kitchen is my favorite space my husband and I remodeled it in 2011 and he built me a spice cabinet and a pantry cabinet that works perfectly for me and when both our boys are home the 4 of us can all work together making our favorite foods 🫶
ReplyDeleteLove this!!!
DeleteWe moved to our forever home 4 years ago. It's all on one level with one Great Room that includes, kitchen, dining, living rooms. I love that it is open. The kitchen has SOFT CLOSE CABINETS and DRAWERS. Not good if you need to slam something to emphasize your displeasure, but definitely good when you are sneaking a snack. ;) I love my island (with outlets at either end) for baking, prepping, and making meals. I can work, chat with whoever is there, or watch t.v. all at once.
ReplyDeleteOops, forgot. mickee (at) rogers (dot) com Thanks for the chance!
DeleteHa! That's what I always say about cell phones--no more slamming down the receiver in anger. And I agree that an open design is wonderful!
DeleteYes, I shout out "Behind you!" like I learned to do in culinary arts school, lol. And you are so right about being joyful and eating well, Luis!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the kitchens - thanks so much! What do I wish for? level floors! our house is a 200+ year-old farmhouse and we just cannot get the kitchen floor level! I do love the big open space in the middle though and windows that look out over miles of open fields towards the mountains! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win the books and hope to see some of you at Malice! jwhite410 (at) yahoo (dot) com.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jill! After remodeling a 1910 bungalow and a 1930 farmhouse built around an old cabin, I too wanted a level floor, and other "mod cons," as our British friends say. Did I get them, in our 1999 house? HA! But a 200 y.o. farmhouse? That's a treasure worth chasing a dropped strawberry for!
DeleteLOL, Luis -- we do that, too -- "behind you" or "on your left, sharp," when there's a knife involved! Fun that you both cook, and love sharing it with each other!
ReplyDeleteWe’re renting, but one of my favorite parts now actually our set of ridiculously deep pho bowls that we use for everyday bowls. Plus, they are a stunning blue color! thehilaryflanagan@gmail
ReplyDeleteOh, they sound wonderful!!! A beautiful dish makes everything taste better!
DeleteThanks for sharing your kitchens. I love them all. I currently live with, and take care of, my mom. Her kitchen is original to her 1970's house. She's made a few improvements, but not many. There's not much cabinet space, so I wish we could add an island....even if it's a movable one. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeletebarbiefan at comcast dot net
I don't like my kitchen! It's too small and doesn't have enough counters and cabinets! I would love to remodel it and put in an island, maybe a two tiered one! I enjoyed seeing all of the kitchens! They look wonderful! slmcarthur@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteGlad we're inspiring you!
DeleteI love my huge marble topped island that can seat up to 4 on its barstool seating side. It has tons of deep storage on the opposite side and electric plugs on each short end of the rectangle. It is great to unload grocery shopping bags, meal prep, cook, use mixers or slow cookers, serve holiday meals, and/or eat.

That sounds fabulous!
DeleteWOW, I am envious that many of the MLK authors got to design & build their own kitchens and/or have two homes.
ReplyDeleteAs a lifelong renter, i have had no say in how big/small or well/poorly designed my apartment kitchen is.
I have lived in my Ottawa apartment for 11 years now. It is a small galley kitchen about half the size of the kitchen I had in Toronto. Only pluses in this kitchen are the glass topped stove. Super fast to heat/cook. And I have plenty of kitchen shelving but not enough counter space. For example, I have to use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer in the hallway nearmthe kitchen. Not ideal.
Those stoves are becoming increasingly popular, esp the induction variety. I think a lot of us can relate to using the mixer in the hallway!
DeleteMy favorite spot in my kitchen is the island . That is where I sit and watch my professional chef husband work his magic while I drink wine . He enjoys the culinary mystery titles I have lying around the house !
ReplyDeleteJenswartz90@gmail.com
LOL -- the perfect use for the kitchen island!
DeleteI just moved into a house with a huge kitchen and an island. It has cupboards to the ceiling, which, when you are short, become empty spaces! Loved seeing your kitchens! Thanks for the chance! ljbonkoski @yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThree years ago we went from a huge kitchen in our Houston house to a kitchen a quarter of the size in a 100+ years old house in Virginia. The previous owners remodeled the kitchen. It's functional but bland. It works for now! patdupuy@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteI love all of your kitchens. I have a galley kitchen that was designed by our aunt who was maybe 5' tall. My family are all tall and broad shouldered so it's tricky to share cooking space. I dream of a kitchen big enough for an island!
ReplyDeleteMy email is gwenliesl@yahoo.com
DeleteI love my kitchen. We remodeled it a few years ago. The cabinets are rustic hickory and beautiful. We have undercabinet lights so my counter tops are well lit. We have an island with counter space on either side of the kitchen sink with great lighting over that. When I am washing dishes, I look over the dining and family rooms, with a view out the patio door to the lake and some of the most beautiful sunsets. We also have lighting above the soffits and along the kickplates. I miss my kitchen when we are traveling. Thanks for the chance to win! And thanks for sharing your kitchens. ElaineE246 at msn dot com
ReplyDeleteIt sounds wonderful, Elaine! I put hickory cabinets in the kitchen in my previous house and they were gorgeous!
DeleteI really don't love my 1980's galley kitchen. But I am happy with my coffee corner, with a coffee maker and an iced tea maker, both on sliding drawers. Makes them easy to access and there is storage for tea bags and coffee pods.
ReplyDeleteYour coffee corner sounds like the perfect personal touch! We created one, too, though it's behind a cabinet door in a corner, and I love it!
DeleteI have sunny yellow walls and white cabinets making our kitchen a very cheerful place to be. fitzpatrick. lynn@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSuch a popular kitchen color!
DeleteThe favorite part of my kitchen is the custom spice cabinet. I came home from a business trip one time to find a huge wrapped present on my kitchen wall. My first thought was, Why do we need a big screen TV in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteMy husband had built a spice cabinet using koa wood that the original owners had used for a kids breakfast nook. It's gorgeous and large enough to hold 40-50 spices (depending on size.) We love to cook and try out new flavors. It was the best present ever!
Oh, how fabulous!!!
DeleteI like that I have plenty of cabinets, but I wish I had more counter space. I also really like my ceramic tile floor which is laid in the herringbone pattern. But it really does need a makeover.
ReplyDeletediannekc8(at)gmail(dot)com
So much you can do with tile!
DeleteI like all of the kitchens. I am envious of the folks who have two kitchens to work in. My dream kitchen would have room for an island in the middle to work from but I'm not moving ever again so I won't get that. And I'm perfectly fine with that. I love my house and my small kitchen. It's definitely better than others I've had. My favorite part in my kitchen is the lazy susan cabinet where I keep my spices. Flip it to one side and it's for baking, the other side is for savory.

Islands! Peninsulas! Kitchen geography! And I'm so glad you like our table. Blued pine with a metal insert and a handmade iron base -- we designed it with a woodworker friend. I spotted the bluing on the wood at the lumber yard, said "it looks like a river," and off we went!

ReplyDeleteWhat a handy husband!
DeleteLeslie, I really enjoyed seeing everyone’s kitchens. Such a fun idea. For us, the kitchen has always been the heart of the home. As an Italian American, it's where everything happens; cooking, talking, laughing, even some arguing! When we built our house, we made sure to extend the kitchen by eight feet so we’d have room for a table in addition to the breakfast bar. After living here for forty years, we recently decided to add a second wall of windows, just to let in more light and bring the outdoors in. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s made the space even more inviting.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds perfect, Anj! No matter how big or small, the kitchen really is the heart of the home!
DeleteWhat fun reading about your kitchens. We are fortunate that we have a nice big kitchen. Susan lovetopaint@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteMarvelous views and stories.
ReplyDeleteYou all introduced me to Rancho Gordo beans. I accidently proved to myself how superiour they are last week. I'd made a batch of their beans and we ate about half. When I went to use the remaining ones up, I wanted a bit more so I added some canned beans. What a difference! Night and day. The canned beans were rather pasty in texture. Not nearly as nice as the rancho gordo
beans.
Thanks.

I like that my kitchen is a U shape, which makes cooking pretty efficient for me. Wish it was an eat-in kitchen, but our little dining room is just next to the kitchen so I can't complain. My cabinets are just like Maddy's except no pulls (maybe someday I will get some). Thanks for sharing your kitchens with us!

DeleteI actually have a small kitchen but I think it’s really cozy. ReplyDeleteMe, too. When we moved the bathroom to create a larger dining room and access to the back meadow, we lost a closet we'd used as a pantry. Those things are now in the laundry room -- not ideal, but we make it work.
DeleteI like how many cabinets I have in my kitchen. I’ve lived other places where it was a struggle to find room for everything. awanstrom(at)yahoodotcom
ReplyDeleteWe can all relate!
DeleteI like my kitchen. It has 3 windows which allows the sunlight in. I have my state spoons I’ve collected hanging on my wall.
ReplyDeleteLove that -- collections make a space special!
DeleteI like the openness of my kitchen. Would love more cabinets, but who wouldn’t. I love to bake, but then I’m liable to eat it all…
ReplyDeleteLOL! I resemble that remark!
DeleteLinda Ross. Since I am alone, I don’t do a whole lot of cooking. I do make a lot of soup but as we go towards summer, I won’t be doing as much.
ReplyDeleteOh, the seasonal food change! Always fun!
DeleteMy kitchen is small but I'm still able to cook in there. I have a studio apartment so it is small but I do what I can with it. Thanks for this amazingly generous giveaway.
ReplyDeleteOur pleasure -- but leave your email address to be entered!
DeleteDesigned our kitchen when we built new house in 2005 after fire destroyed old house. Although I love my kitchen, there things I’d do differently now, mostly because there are so many more options!
ReplyDeleteJanrose55@iCloud.com
Oh, Jan -- a fire. How dreadful. And yes, there are always new ideas and we gobble them up!
DeleteCleo, I love your baby Yoda and that you worked on Star Wars films along with your husband. That is so cool.
ReplyDeleteI live in a converted garage behind my kids' main house (by choice). I have a full kitchen but it is not large. What I do like is that there is a separate bar that could be used as a table if needed with storage below for my cookware. In front of it I was able to fit my old island for all of my bakeware. lkish77123 at gmail dot com
Linda, this sounds ideal -- small but flexible.

ReplyDeleteFun for us to see and share, too -- and to hear from readers!
DeleteThanks for the sneak peek! I wish I had more counter space, my kitchen is very small. My gas oven is also very ancient (think 1960's era) and is old enough the pilot lights stay lit. In the summer the gas is turned off and we use the instant pot, microwave or grill. Thanks for the chance to win so great sounding books!
ReplyDeletemadamhawk at gmail dot com
I can relate -- we have a gas fireplace in the LR and turn off the pilot in the summer, then cross our fingers that it will light up again in September without a service call!
DeleteMy kitchen is the heartbeat of my home. I love having big family celebrations and four generations gather in the kitchen while we cook, eat, reminisce, laugh, and gossip. ryderbliss@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteA dream kitchen defined!
DeleteI remodeled my kitchen 12 years ago, and while I love the granite, cabinet exteriors and hardware. I would love a pantry. (I need more storage!) I too was thrilled to create space for cookbook shelves instead of having them stuck in a low cupboard.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for sharing about your kitchens - what fun! And, thank you for the great books you write to transport many of us from our stressful lives and this site - sharing so many great recipes and stories throughout the year, jcoulosn03@yahoo.com
Our pleasure! And we thank all of you for joining us, here and on the page!
DeleteMy kitchen is smaller than I like but I do love the cheerful yellow that we painted it. I hope that I’m the lucky reader.
