Celebrating Baby Cocktail @MaddieDayAuthor #giveaway

MADDIE DAY here, getting super excited for next week's release of Scone Cold Dead

It's no secret that Robbie Jordan gives birth at the end of the book. Don't worry, I spare you graphic details of her labor and birth.

Robbie's in-laws host Thanksgiving dinner the following week, and her mother-in-law Freddy makes a special drink to celebrate the arrival of Robbie and Abe's newborn daughter. Here's a snippet of the scene:

Freddy approached carrying two Manhattan glasses. “I invented a Celebrating Baby cocktail, which also works for Thanksgiving.” She handed me one of the glasses and sat at the other end of the couch.

I thanked her and took a sip, rolling the flavors on my tongue. “Mmm. Cranberry, orange, bitters, and what, rum? Plus bubbly.”

“You got it. The orange is from the Grand Marnier.”

“It’s a delicious combination, but I need to take it slow.”

“You haven’t been drinking for most of a year.” She sipped hers.

“Right. More important, the last thing I want is alcohol getting into my milk.” I’d done my research and knew sipping a single drink right after I’d nursed wouldn’t harm my little one. “I won’t feed the baby for another couple of hours, so a few sips will be okay.”

Without further ado, here's the admittedly simple recipe.

Celebrating Baby Cocktail

For one drink:

2 ounces cranberry juice

2 ounces rum

1/2 ounce Cointreau or Grand Marnier

A few drops orange bitters

Prosecco

Directions

Pour juice, rum, and Grand Marnier over ice in a Manhattan glass. Add bitters and stir, then top up with bubbly. Adjust ingredients to taste

Cheers!

Readers: What's your favorite celebratory drink, whether alcoholic or not? I'll send a lucky commenter a copy of the new book - as soon as my copies arrive.

  3. Edith, this cocktail sounds delicious! I love Prosecco at any time. My Friday night go to is a Tito’s martini, bone dry, straight up, with a twist of lemon. But your cocktail might change that!

  4. Not sure of it's name, but long time ago I fell in love with a drink served at the Drury Hotel chain. Think it's a variation of Sex on the Beach. It has orange juice, cranberry juice, triple sec, Sprite and vodka or rum. As you can tell, I'm a sweet and fruity gal. :) Honestly, I love it both with the alcohol or without.

Thank you for the Celebrating Baby Cocktail recipe and for the amazing chance to win a copy of your soon to be released book STONE COLD DEAD! Love your books and can't wait for the opportunity to dive into this one.

  6. Congratulations on the book! Thank you for the recipe and the chance to win. For celebrating I like Peach Bellini or a cranberry/orange Mimosa. A Cape Cod will work in a pinch. madamhawk at gmail dot com

  7. Congrats on what is sure to be another awesome book! I am looking forward to reading and baking some scones. We celebrate with a champagne produced by a local winery, Wilson's Creek. The champagne has a hint of almond and is called Almond Nui, and we mix in a jigger of Decadencia, a chocolate liqueur from the same winery. Thank you for the opportunity to win. Fingers crossed tracy.condie@gmail.com

  8. Wohoo! Another Maddie Day book baby... and with a promised baby at the end!!! Congratulations to you, Edith for writing such brillient books that keep us readers entertained for hours, glued to each page. Scone Cold Dead will be especially wonderful because I am a scone addict, and because we all want Robbie to have a safe birth, though I bet she will be sleuthing until she gives birth! My favorite cocktail has to be the original pisco sour. I say that because nowadays everyone in Peru and Chile has a variation to offer. Your cocktail may just become my favorite, judging from the ingredients. I am especially fond of an occasional Grand Marnier, so I will try it with both liqueurs. Thank you for another fabulous recipe!!! BTW, yesterday we made your Southern Jam cake for the first time, and it is over-the-top delicious! JOY! Luis at ole dot travel
