Release day is always special for an author, and that's why we're celebrating. This is the official publication date for PIES AND PREJUDICE, the first installment in a charming new mystery series by our fellow crime-writing cook Ellery Adams!
When the going gets tough, Ella Mae LaFaye bakes pies. After catching her husband cheating in New York, she heads back home to Havenwood, Georgia, where she can drown her sorrows in fresh fruit filling and flakey crust. But her pies aren't just delicious. They appear to have magical effects on the people who eat them.
Ella Mae soon makes her own wish come true by opening the Charmed Pie Shoppe. But with her old nemesis Loralyn Gaynor making trouble, and her old crush Hugh Dylan making nice, she has more than pie on her plate. Then Loralyn's fiancé is found dead--killed with Ella Mae's rolling pin--and it will take all her sweet magic to clear her name.
Help us congratulate Ellery
on her new release day!

Ellery Adams' Low Fat
Apple Berry Tart
Apple Berry Tart
3 medium apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced (I used Honeycrisp, but it’s also fun to mix up the apples and use one Golden Delicious and 2 Granny Smith, for example)
1 pint of fresh raspberries, rinsed
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoon lemon juice
8 sheets phyllo dough (14-inch by 9-inch sheets)
butter-flavored cooking spray
cinnamon for sprinkling
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Toss apples slices and raspberries in a medium bowl with sugar and lemon juice. Meanwhile, remove eight sheets of phyllo dough from the pack.
Lay the phyllo sheets on a clean work surface. Removing one sheet at a time and covering the remainder with plastic wrap or a damp paper towel, spray each sheet with butter-flavored cooking spray (I used Crisco spray), then lay sheet in a 9-inch pie dish, with the extra dough hanging over the edge. Repeat with remaining sheets, forming a circular pattern.

Add in the mixture of apple and raspberries, then bring up the sides of the dough and fold in, leaving a gap in the center. Spray with butter-flavored spray. Sprinkle cinnamon over the whole tart. Bake for 30 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
My favorite pie is classic apple! YUMMMMM,
ReplyDeleteBTW- iBook just downloaded my pre-purchased copy of Pies and Prejudice! So excited to read it!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Thanks, Heather!
DeleteMy favorite pie is a fresh strawberry one my mom used to make. I can't wait to read Pies and Prejudice!
ReplyDeleteHappy release week. I love cream pies
ReplyDeleteMy husband gave me a mold like that--only an apple--for my birthday. The nice thing is that it's both a cutter (one side) and a stuffer/crimper (the other side). It works! Pies for everyone!
ReplyDeleteHappy release day Ellery! Can't wait to read Pies! and celebrate the launch of another great series:)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait. I have pre-ordered it, but it hasn't arrived. My favorite pies are a tie between peach and a good coconut cream pie. I am definitely going to try this one, maybe today.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Ellery! Pies and Prejudice. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteAvery aka Daryl

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is pumpkin but I'm also fond of hot apple pie with a slice of cheese on top.
Cathy AJ
Congratulations on your release, Ellery!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable mold! Pie making is a big thing for me and I have always loved it. Choosing a favorite pie is hard. However, I think I would say either cherry or peach. I never get those because my family always wants a granny smith apple pie.
ReplyDeleteI love the title! Pies and Prejudice! How cute is that? I'll bet the novel is a good one and I look forward to reading it!
Happy release day! May your book sell like hotcakes (or pies, as the case may be)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is a baked crust but unbaked filling of wild Maine blueberries with a lemon, sugar, cornstarch glaze. Served with lightly sweetened whipped cream (the real stuff).
Heaven on a fork!
How can one choose a favorite when there are so many that are so good? I guess I'd choose pecan.

Banana Cream Pie !!
ReplyDeleteMy book showed up on my kindle last night. Can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! My fav is ANYTHING gluten-free. Today I'd say I'd pick apple but maybe I'm influenced by the 4th of July. All best wishes.

ReplyDeleteI love all pies but my favorite is a nice apple pie with lots of spice.
ReplyDeleteI like several but cherry is my absolute favorite. Yum

ReplyDeletePies are like books: the best parts are between the covers! Both the book and the pie look like a great treat! My favorite pie is pineapple!
ReplyDeleteI thought of many favorite pies as I scrolled down to leave a comment - peach pie, that's my favorite, oh no, wait, it's lemon or maybe chocolate silk, yeah that's it but wait, there was that one I saw on the food channel - but really the most favorite is blackberrry cobbler, after I helped pick the berries. Sweet and juicy, can't be beat. Dye me purple and watch me smile!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie has always been strawberry rubarb, but it is so rare that I get to eat it.
ReplyDeleteThe pie I miss is elderberry pie. My grandmother had elderberries on her farm and they made wonderful pies and jelly. Have not seen them for years. My favorite pie has always been coconut cream.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded my advance order this morning and can't wait to start the read later tonight.

Wild blueberry pie is the queen of pies.
ReplyDeleteThe recipe you have posted looks good too.
I'm looking forward to reading Pies and Prejudice. My favorite pie is Pumpkin, no Chocolate Peanut Butter, no Strawberry, .... it's hopeless I like them all.
ReplyDeleteI love most pies but Chess pie is really, really good!
ReplyDeleteLove food-based mystery series. All the fun of a mystery and ZERO CALORIES! But, nice to try the included recipes-- usually "tried and true".
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is blueberry pie - especially with home grown blueberries (just like Mom used to make). Apple is a close second, though I've never tried it with raspberries...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is of course French Silk with a graham cracker crust. I would not consIder lite being complete without chocolate!
ReplyDeleteHappy Release Day, Ellery! I've been looking forward to this new series since you first mentioned it. The UPS man should be here any minute.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie is a deep, dark chocolate meringue. The recipe came from my mother's Watkins Cookbook, and it has made every other chocolate pie taste pale, flat, and dull. I know--in honor of your new series release, I'll make one!
Favorite Pie: The piece in front of me.
ReplyDeleteI love Pecan Pie! and I look forward to having a slice ( or two ) during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. =)
ReplyDeletePie... I just love pie. I love apple pie, peach pie, cherry pie, rhubarb pie, lemon pie, pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, chocolate pie, berry pie... I just LOVE PIE!
ReplyDeleteFavorite pie to eat is a toss-up between Key Lime Pie and Rhubarb Pie. Favorite pie to make is pumpkin...or banana cream.
ReplyDeleteshoo-fly is my favorite pie...
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite pies are cherry and blueberry..what a wonderful thing to enjoy while reading a good book...with a big cup of coffee.

My favorite pie is a tie between coconut cream pie and fresh strawberry pie. Yum!
ReplyDeleteOh do I have to pick a favorite? Chocolate. Chocolate pie is my favorite. Chocolate anything is my favorite so why not pie? Ellery, I'm waiting for my pre-ordered book to arrive and can't wait to read yet another great mystery series by you. I sincerely hope that all of this support from your fellow authors and devoted fans is helping to fill your grieving heart with some happiness. Best to you..Adrienne in MN.
ReplyDeleteHappy Release Day Ellery, am loving the book!! My all time favorite pie is Cherry,a fully loaded Cherry pie!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy release date! What a great idea for a new series; can't wait to read it. My favorite pie is a properly made apple. By "properly made," I mean an apple pie made with a combination of three apple varieties: sweet, tart and aromatic apple. Yeah, I know, picky picky . . .
ReplyDeleteLemon Meringue has always been my favorite, has good family memories tied in.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great book. I love apple pie.
ReplyDeletethis sounds like a series I will like! The title is a hoot! My favorite pie was the caramel meringue pie my grandmother used to make. Sadly, no one wrote down her recipe, so I have only memories of it.
ReplyDeleteRhubarb custard. Tart cherry with almond. Oh, oh, oh, how to choose, how to choose?
ReplyDeleteCoconut cream is my favorite, but key lime is a close second.
ReplyDeleteLemon meringue is my favorite. I haven't been able to buy one that tastes as good as the homemade, so I'm sticking with those.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite pie would be cherry pie.
ReplyDeletethank you for the chance to win

Pies and Prejudice just looks so tasty :) I came across it the other day on another site and immediately had to wishlist it. Thank you for sharing today and making me smile with this awesome memory of a favorite pie. The pie is called BanBerry; it has an incredibly flaky sweet crust with a very light custard, layers of fresh bananas, then layers of fresh strawberries, then a light strawberry glaze, and a circle of whipped cream. Now that was heaven! Of course for the cute pocket pie cutter I can see everything from savory to fresh fruit - YUM!
