Raspberry Chocolate Brownies #recipe, Guest Sharon Farrow, #bookgiveaway

Today we're delighted to welcome as our guest someone you probably already know, Sharon Farrow, author of the Berry Basket Cozy Mystery series! She's sharing a mouth-watering recipe along with news about her latest book, plus a book giveaway! So be sure to enjoy the recipe and leave a comment, along with your email address.

I went gluten-free three years ago and have rarely tasted a dessert with gluten since. However my family, who aren’t GF, wanted brownies for the 4th of July, and raspberry chocolate brownies sounded like a great idea. Even I couldn’t resist a few bites.

The recipe was found on Jessica Holmes’ sweetestmenu.com. Jessie is an Australian who enjoys coming up with her own spin on American recipes. And her raspberry brownies rank with the best I’ve ever tasted. Enjoy.

RASPBERRY CHOCOLATE BROWNIES

½ cup or 1 stick unsalted butter
1 1/3 cup dark chocolate, broken into pieces
½ cup caster sugar
½ cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 large eggs
½ cup plain flour
¼ cup cocoa powder
1 cup fresh raspberries
½ cup milk chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 360 degrees.

Grease an 8x8 cake pan.

Add butter and dark chocolate to a heat-proof bowl or large glass mixing cup. Microwave until melted, stirring every 30 seconds. Let cool slightly.

Add sugar and vanilla to the melted chocolate mixture. Stir.

Add the eggs one at a time. Stir again.

Add flour and cocoa. Stir until mixture is smooth.

Add fresh raspberries and milk chocolate chips, then gently stir. Pour mixture into greased cake pan.

Gently smooth over the top.

Bake 30-35 minutes, or until cooked through. When done, it should begin to crack along the edges and not wobble in the middle.

Cool completely before cutting into squares. Makes 12 servings.

Mulberry Mischief Intro:

Autumn has arrived on the shores of Lake Michigan, but Marlee Jacob, proprietor of The Berry Basket, is feeling a chill for other reasons …

With the Harvest Health Fair in full swing, Marlee makes sure to stock up on elderberry products for cold and flu season. But this year there's also a run on mulberry when an eccentric customer wants to use the dried berries to ward off evil forces. True, it's almost Halloween, but something else seems to be spooking Leticia the Lake Lady, Oriole Point's oddest resident. She believes someone plans to kill her—and the ghost. Only mulberries can protect them. Marlee doesn't take her fears seriously until a man named Felix Bonaventure arrives in the village, asking questions about a mysterious woman.

The next day, Marlee finds Bonaventure dead on Leticia's property—shot through the heart with an arrow made of mulberry wood. And Leticia has disappeared. Marlee soon learns the Lake Lady has a deadly past that is connected to the famous Sable family who are in town for the health fair. A bunch of clues start to come together—and figuring out what's going on puts Marlee in a real jam …

  11. That recipe is calling my name. I've got to make it for my family. Would this recipe also work if you wanted to substitute cherries? I love to change things up sometimes.

    1. I've never tried it with cherries, but I don't know why substituting fresh cherries for raspberries wouldn't work. And you could decorate the brownies with maraschino cherries.
