Green Goddess dip with Crudités #recipe from author @DarylWoodGerber

It's almost Mother's Day. What do you do for your mom, with your mom, for yourself...if you're a mom, or for another mom?

I think having a smorgasbord of delectable choices and using paper plates is essential.  I like the event to be all about the love and the party, not the clean up.

Now, being celiac, I don't do dips when I go out. They're often packed with suspicious things like wheat, soy sauce, and the like. So I really love serving them when I throw a party because I can regulate what goes into the recipe. I have found a couple of good powered onion soup mixes that are gluten-free. (Mom's - how appropriate...and Riega.) Great to throw in sour cream for dipping chips.

Today, however, I'm sharing this flavorful recipe for green goddess dressing that I discovered in Food and Wine Annual Cookbook 2013. I tweaked it because I didn't have all the ingredients in the house, but it turned out divine! (He used flat-leaf parsley; I used regular. He used tarragon leaves; I used Penzey's Bonne herbs. He used 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice and one tablespoon fresh lemon juice. I didn't have a lime so I doubled the lemon juice.)

By the way, this is yummy on a salad if you don't run out of it at the party. I also served it with grilled shrimp as well as a grilled chicken breast.

GREEN GODDESS DIP WITH CRUDITÉS:
 Tweaked recipe from David Burtka

(yield: 2 cups)

1 cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
½ cup parsley, chopped
2 tablespoons snipped chives
1 tablespoon Bonne Herbs (Penzey) or tarragon
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
3 oil-packed anchovies
salt and freshly ground pepper
Assorted vegetables for dipping, such as celery, cucumbers, snap peas, carrots

In a blender, combine the sour cream and mayonnaise with the parsley, chives, herbs, lemon juice, and anchovies. Puree until smooth. Season the dip with salt and  pepper, and more lemon juice, if desired. Serve with the vegetables.
