Wok this way!

Hub and I love to wok out together!
Okay, I'll stop now. I wouldn't want
my post to be too much wok. Okay,
really I'm stopping...now.
Seriously, one of our favorite kitchen
toys is our wok. You just can't go wrong
with it when you need a quick and nutritious
meal
for the family. This is a stir fry recipe the
Hub impressed us with the other day.

Ingredients

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

3 tablespoons cornstarch

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

3 tablespoons sesame oil

2 cups diced veggies (he used carrots, onions and red peppers)

1 cup water

1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules

Chopped fresh cilantro

Directions

Cut chicken into 1-inch chunks; place in a plastic bag. Add cornstarch and toss to

coat. Combine soy sauce, ginger and garlic powder; add to bag and shake well.

Refrigerate for 30 minutes. In a large wok, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over med-hi

heat; stir-fry chicken about 3-5 minutes. Remove and keep warm. Add remaining

oil; stir- fry veggies for 4-5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Add water and bouillon.

Return chicken to pan. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly. Serve over rice,

sprinkle with chopped cilantro.

Take a wok on the wild side...;-)

  3. We've had a wok for decades, but we kind of gave up making stir-fry because it just didn't taste like Chinese food. Yes, we use all those lovely ingredients you list, including freshly-grated ginger and sesame oil, but it still tastes blah.

So all you foodies out there, is there a special "Chinese Restaurant" spray or powder they aren't telling us about? Do we just slather on the MSG and hope for the best? What's the secret??

  4. Super healthy recipe, Jenn, and I have always maintained that a man at the stove is a beautiful thing -- or, to put it another way: Real men *make* quiche! (As in Avery’s Long Quiche Goodbye contest, which I’m thinking of entering because the clue hunt looks like lots of fun.)

Great puns in your post, BTW, none are coming to mind for me, but I'll wok on it. (Wait! I have a thematic one or my comment: I like to wok up and smell a man cooking. Oh! Ouch! Sorry!)

Cheers and have a great day,

  5. Ok, I'm LOL about all the wok jokes. Too funny. Jenn, thanks for the great recipe. Sheila, MSG isn't the secret. That's just a binder. Cornstarch does the same thing. If it tastes blah, add a little diced garlic or a tablespoon of mustard. That seems to always give it the zing I miss from a restaurant.

Jenn, thanks for posting about my contest. We had two people enter right after midnight last night. Hello, nightowls!

  6. Thanks for humoring me, everyone. I do love a good pun or even better -- a bad one!

Shel, thanks for the kind words and definitely enter Avery's contest soon -- it looks like a winner (ha, sorry).

E, yes, you do have to love a man who can wok and roll. Okay, SORRY, I can't help myself.

Sheila, I think Avery is right. Garlic or mustard should make all the difference.

Cleo, too funny! Real men do make quiche and stir-fry;-)

Avery, my pleasure. I am eagerly awaiting your book. Hub says I'm a cheese snob (I do love my exotic cheeses) so your book is a perfect fit for me.

    Wok on!

  8. This sounds great, Jenn! Maybe I'll take a wok on the wild side and try it! (Couldn't resist) Great ingredients and so nice and simple. Cilantro...mmm... i just planted some so I'll have it handy to wok with all summer.

    Addictive...
