In the South, we like things sweet.
Sweet tea is a must.
We frequently call family members “sweetie.”
And something naturally sweet, like peaches, gets even sweeter in recipes like the one below, for peach crisps.
I’d just bought some wonderful peaches at the market that were just the right ripeness. I wasn’t in the mood to do something quite as involved as a cobbler, so this recipe hit the spot.
Peach Crisp
Preheat oven to 375
4 cups fresh peaches
3/4 cup sugar (set half aside)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup flour
1 stick butter
Peel, pit, and slice the peaches. Add half the sugar and all the cinnamon. Cut the butter into the lour and add the last half of the sugar to the flour and butter mixture. Put peaches in a well-greased casserole dish and cover with the flour mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are tender.
If you want, you can even put some ice cream or whipped cream on top. I wanted to. :) Serve it hot for extra deliciousness.
My camera was not cooperating with me yesterday, but this should give you an idea…

SWEET! (Couldn't resist.) Grinning at your mention of sweet tea at the opening of your post. My absolute favorite iced tea happens to be *peach* iced tea. So, for me, your Peach Crisp is the perfect recipe for the unofficial start of summer. A really versatile recipe, too - I could add a handful of blueberries one day or maybe mix peaches and plums another. Wonderful! And...I'll take mine with ice cream, too. :)

fruit covered in sugar and butter...
ReplyDeletegod bless you
Sounds great! I hope to pick up some peaches as we pass through Georgia next week!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try this. I had peach cobbler at a family reunion on Sunday. I've wanted something peachy ever since and this will hit the spot without a lot of work.

Thoughts in Progress
Cleo--Peach tea! Love it! Apparently we can't drink anything down here unless it's sweet. :) Even our alcoholic beverages are sweet! It's amazing we're not all on insulin...
ReplyDeleteProf Stacy: The peach stands are in full swing! Definitely pick up a basket of them.
Mason--This is quick and easy. The longest thing is the peeling of the peaches, but even that doesn't take long. :)
I love peaches and anything peach flavored. Peach tea is my favorite too and I can't wait until the grocery store up here starts stocking the ripe fruit. Last week they were tiny and hard, so I think it may be a while. I'll keep this recipe handy!

This one's a keeper! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDave--Ha! And I wouldn't have it any other way. :) You know, I think even something really nasty would be good with sugar and butter slathered on it. And peaches? Just heavenly. :O)
ReplyDeleteJulie--They're just now getting softer. Not sure how the peach harvest was this year with all the cold weather we had.
Carol--Thanks for coming by!
My favorite fruit in the whole world is peaches. I love this!

Avery--Mine too! There's just something special about them. :)
ReplyDeleteI just picked two dozen peaches off of our tree this morning. Perfect timing, E. I can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteJenn--A peach tree! That would be *wonderful*. Talk about fresh fruit! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous peaches, Elizabeth. I haven't seen any of this year's crop yet up here, but I'm looking forward to it. This sounds like a wonderful dessert! Or snack. It contains fruit, so it's healthy, right? So that means it could be a good breakfast? ; )
